I guessed that as well but now that I think of it, those Ewoks wouldn't have immediately trust Ren, treating him like they do with most outsiders, with hostility. Do you think they were harmed when the helmet was retrieved? I'm starting to think they were.

 

Hopefully the Ewoks steered clear of Kylo Ren's ship when it touched down near the site of Vader's funeral pyre. Hopefully they weren't thinking: "Our Rebel Alliance friends are back! Let's go say Hi to them!"

Vader may not have wiped them out but Kylo seems to take less crap than his grandfather did, and he doesn't seem like the kind of guy who'd appreciate cuddly, furry creatures.

 

Well, as strange as it is, the Ewok were able to stand up against an army of Stormtroopers. Maybe knowing this and the fact that Ewoks eat humans, Ren waited until it was clear before retrieving the helmet.

 

Yub Nub means "Human flesh is so tender and juicy" in Ewok language. No wonder George changed the end music of Episode VI to John Williams' "Victory Celebration."

The EWOKs are all masters of the force, it's the only way they could've killed stormtroopers with rocks.

Best characters.

 

TFA was almost titled Shadow of the Empire, which is almost the same as one of the Legends EU novels, Shadows of the Empire.

 

It's fascinating how they took the stormtroopers seriously this time, even though they were mocked quite heavily in pop culture, and how they treated redshirts in trek, giving in to the pop culture mockery.

 

Some reason, I always figured Vader's gravesite would have been avoided by Endor's lifeforms. Seem to recall a bit in the old EU about how nothing grew at the site and it was cold in the force or something like that.

 

It makes you wonder how long Vader's armor and cremated remains were there before Kylo Ren or somebody else connected to him retrieved them. In the 30 years since Jedi I guess none of the Ewoks, victorious Rebels or other native life-forms and visitors to Endor took notice of the partially-melted cybernetic armor, wondered what happened there and scavenged the site.

 

Taking the Stormtroopers seriously might be a holdover from the Clone Wars cartoon where the Clones were taken seriously.

The Rebels cartoon still doesn't take Stormtroopers seriously, but gives a few reasons why they suck. Garbage armor for one. Non-cooperative training for another (every man for himself)

The First Order Troopers seem to be better trained and equipped than Imperial Stormtroopers. Not as well trained as Republic Clone Troopers, but the First Order troopers might have better equipment.

 

At the very least, their helmets look like they offer a slightly better field of vision than the old stormtrooper helmets.

 

Luke captured a shuttle, and had an entire "forest moon" to pick locations from. There's no reason to believe he cremated Vader anywhere near walking distance of the Ewok village or any other settlement.

 

Although it's a planet choked with wildlife, many species of which are sentient. Close to an Ewok village or a tribe of other creatures not, it's still good that something survived long enough to be found and recovered.

I guess Luke mentioned at some point that he cremated his father's remains and more or less where the funeral pyre was located. Kylo remembered those details over the years and once he fell to the Dark Side and abandoned his Jedi training he took a ship and used sensors to pinpoint the spot on Endor. Vader's metal helmet would have been one of the only non-organic materials in that entire area.

 

Who says they were still on Endor? For all we know, Luke took them somewhere, a place to keep his father's remains. And Kylo knew, since it was his grandfather's remain, and Luke (at that time) so no reason to keep that from him.

I mean, I highly doubt Luke would leave his father's remains just there. And, honestly.... Rain, wind, storms, whatever.... the changes that after years and years the ashes were still exactly there......

 

Everything else seemed to have its place, but this did not conform. A stain that seemed to absorb all other senses, casting waves of leftover darkness that caused the creatures on Endor to avoid the place instinctively.
