Rather than just attackin' teens in their sleep, Freddy takes possession of the teenage boy that has moved onto Elm Street five years after the events of the first movie. Not a lot of deaths in the movie, but still gory. And I read on IMDB that the gay subtext was intentional. Followed that with NN, which suggests that Freddy is an actual evil that is tryin' to be a part of the real world through the production of a new Freddy Krueger film written by Wes Craven. Saw how it started, saw how it ended, dozed off a bit in the middle... And, finally, M. Night's movie, the first of his I've watched since Signs. And it was a nice reminder of why I stopped watchin' his movies. [edit]Well, shit, he directed After Earth a couple of years ago...[/edit] - edit - Watched two more movies today. The MK sequel sucked just as much as the first one, very little improvement in the CGI & effects. WHAS was a stupid ass stoner comedy full of non sequiturs & general idiocy. Pretty good cast, though.

Even today, imagining the amount of work that must have done into the sets and the effects impresses. The story itself is extremely melodramatic, but that's to be expected with silent cinema (the acting I didn't find nearly as hammy as that in Nosferatu, the only German silent film I've seen; though Metropolis has an advantage in that it isn't trying to be scary). Mildly amusing that this takes place in the then-distant world of 2026; evidently our problems with income inequality are going to get much worse in the near future. Peanuts Movie - Theater - Took the entire family to check out the Peanuts movie. This would be the very first movie in a theater for my youngest, Kira. I'm a huge Peanuts fan, the comic strip and tv specials hold a very dear place in my heart. I've read the comics to my children since they've been born. So they are all well versed in the Peanuts world. The movie was fantastic, the perfect balance between sentimentality and modern update. The animation is amazing, the fuzzy texture on Snoopy looks like something you want to hold. The kids loved, loved the movie and so did I.

Peanuts Movie in 3D - Theater - Since the kids had off for Veterans Day, what better way to spend it then together in a darkened movie theater. My kids thoroughly enjoyed the Peanuts movie when we saw it on Sunday. With not much to do, they requested we see it again but in 3D. I love 3D and the movie was even more enjoyable with the added demention. Especially the Red Baron scenes, just awesome. I can't wait to own this movie, it really resonated with Ian who's about the same age of the characters. He told me after the movie, he has a little Charlie Brown in him. They were standing up dancing in the aisle at the end with the characters.
Specter - RPX Theater - Specter was playing in both IMAX and RPX theater but no 3D, so I opted for the RPX. While overall enjoyable, it was kinda Meh. Is this movie the worst acting job in Christoph Waltz career? I swear he was sleepwalking through this movie. I also don't get the appeal of Lea Seydoux, not much there talent wise. Some of the action set pieces were nice, especially the opening one. They wasted Dave Bautista and they telegraphed C's role in this, all he was missing was twisting his mustache. This movie was just poorly written because Sam Mandes directed the hell out of it. That opening action piece was fantastic, to bad the rest of the movie didn't live up to it.

Mr. Holmes stars Ian McKellen as Sherlock Holmes in his twilight years, a retiree beekeeper who is self-exiled after his last case. Years later, with his memory failin', he tries to write about his failure, while settin' the record straight from the late Dr. Watson's books that have since been turned into films. I liked it quite a bit. I had hoped to see it when it was in theaters, but the closest showin' was over fifty miles from here. Vacation the sequel/reboot/remake of the Chevy Chase franchise that stars Ed Helms as the adult Rusty Griswold on a road trip with his wife & two sons to Walley World...isn't very funny. I'm watchin' it now, and it really is a pale imitation of the far funnier film from thirty years ago.

I always love James Hong and Jason Statham is always on point as the disciplined guy who kicks your ass, but the break out star of this is young Catherine Chan, who holds her own in a movie of alpha male's quite well. The plot is derivative action movie, but it is a fun ride until the end. I would've like to have seen Statham and his old buddy go toe to toe since they were supposedly equally matched, even if it was just for a minute or so. 36) Snitch - B+ Wow, Barry Pepper got old. I think this is the first time I have seen him in something since Saving Private Ryan. And nice fake beard. This is Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson doing another one of these tough guy that cares movie. He carries that part of it well, but in early scenes where he is getting beaten to a pulp, just by his body type alone you are wondering why he isn't splitting his attackers in two. The best performance of the movie by far is Jon Bernthal as Daniel, the recovering drug addict that Johnson ropes into helping him. You can see in his face that he just wants to move on from his past life and the absolute terror that he is being dragged back in. Kudos also go to Benjamin Bratt, who managed to be intimidating after being the pretty boy in so many other movies and TV series he's been in. I just can't get behind the story though. The situations Johnson gets into would likely leave him killed and he would have to extraordinary luck in order to survive them.

BoS was alright, if a bit "talky"...Tom Hanks is great, as to be expected. And it was nice to see Alan Alda in a brief supportin' role as his boss at the law firm. Followed that with the latest James Bond...better than Quantum of Solace, not as good as Casino Royale & Skyfall, though. Havin' the dude that plays Moriarty in BBC's Sherlock as one of the villains kinda pulled me out of it, though.

The Jeff Dunham special was alright, but I think it could have used more Walter & Peanut and less of the other characters. That there were bloopers (Peanut gettin' thrown across the stage, Achmed falling apart to end the show) kinda makes this the worst of the specials Dunham's done. Did not enjoy the latest from Guy Ritchie as much as his Sherlock Holmes films, but U.N.C.L.E. was still quite fun. Too bad it won't get the sequel that it set itself up for in the end...

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 (A-) An effective end to the series, and about what you'd expect based on Francis Lawrence's two previous entries; I'm not sure this is on the whole as good as Catching Fire, but I'd say it's the second-best overall. Jennifer Lawrence has consistently knocked this role out of the park (best YA lead performance, in my view; nobody else has come close), and there's a raft of recognizable actors in minor parts -- Donald Sutherland playing the villain isn't new, of course, but he's at the top of his game as President Snow. It's too bad that Philip Seymour Hoffman couldn't film his final scene, though they contrive a reasonably effective substitute. 107. Aladdin (A) This was the second movie I ever saw in theatres, back in 1992; this is the first time since then that I've seen it in widescreen, since my many other childhood viewings were obviously on VHS and I never owned the DVD (we also had the soundtrack, of course, which got frequent play in the household). Revisiting it after all these years was interesting; picking out the early CGI integration, which as a kid you obviously don't notice, and the animation on the whole is typically gorgeous. Robin Williams' brilliant turn as the Genie tends to get discussed the most amongst the sidekicks, but on a technical note it's marvelous how expressive they can make Carpet. I'd forgotten some of the finer points of Aladdin's character arc over the years. Finally, I think "A Whole New World" may be the single-best romantic sequence Disney has done. SK4 was stupid, as all the direct to DVD prequel/sequels have been. I liked the Rock's cameo in The Mummy Returns and enjoyed The Scorpion King. Maybe that's why I keep watchin' the others. FG was a disappointment, considerin' the cast, with John Turtorro directin' himself as a man whore with Woody Allen as his pimp. Pixels was not as bad as I thought it would be, considerin' it totally rips off that one episode of Futurama. As I told my nephews, ya can never really tell when an Adam Sandler movie is gonna suck, ya just have to watch it and find out. StSM was a mostly silent stop motion animated film - no real dialogue, bunch of music & sight gags. It was cute, but kinda dull. Watchin' S/L now...I do not understand why they are goin' to so much trouble to kill the guy. If all they wanted was his money, they could have just killed Ben Kingsley & kept Ryan Reynolds in cold storage.
The Good Dinosaur - Movie Theater - Took my two boys to see this on Wednesday in 3D. What a fantastic movie, it's heartfelt and heartbreaking with a simple message not told simply. This movie is for and about those who are gentle souls. The movie reminds me of Cars in its approach, good natured without much cynicism. About accepting people for who they are, learning about yourself along the way. When I first saw trailers for this, the dichotomy between the hyper-realistic backgrounds and the goofy, claymation likeness of the characters was jarring. Well it simply works, doesn't pull you out of the experience at all. The water in this is the best rendered water I've ever seen. I could have stared just at the backgrounds in this movie for hours. I simply loved this movie.
