A simple question. What's your preference? Answer it in the poll above and feel free to specify when the show should take place within that timeline. Concurrent with a past or present production? A distant future we haven't seen yet? A past era relative to one of the shows or movies? You get the idea.

I thought about adding an option called "I don't care so long as it's good." but the show has to take place somewhere so make a choice.

Several hundred years after Voyager, and a few hundred back, the Federation politically joined with its counterparts from several adjacent parallel universes - including the nuTrek-verse. Like on TNG, the history from the other shows is rarely referenced - and whether we're seeing the future of TOS or nuTOS is no longer even very relevant.

I'd like to see a True Detective/Fargo-like anthology series. Where each season is self contained. New ship, crew, and even timeline. It would allow the series to move between timelines as it likes, and explore stories in each.

Outside of that probably-not-happening option, I would a mix between a third timeline and the Prime timeline. Far enough in the future where it isn't bogged down by the TV continuity, and doesn't have to constantly reference the old shows.

Set it in the Enterprise-era, or post-Enterprise-era, or frankly at any point prior to March 2233. That way it will exist in both timelines and make everyone happy (yeah, right).

Though, I imagine to draw in the newer viewers they need they'll have to make it in the nuTrek universe, or at least nuTrek adjacent.

Good idea. I like it. Plus, we could have President/Admiral Archer show up. Scott Bakula is starring in another CBS show at the moment.

From my mind, I imagine it would be a full reboot. But really, you just needn't have to ever mention of the other continuity, and if a story choice you make doesn't match what happened in the past, so be it.

No drama should be bound to fifty year old plot decisions.

So, any of the above? Though full reboot would be cleaner.

I've always that the 2160s was a good choice. A Daedalus Class Enterprise, zipping around with her Warp 7 engine at the birth of the Federation. Admiral Archer Archer in an Admiral Forrest role and compatible with either timeline.

We never met most of the species of the 150 member world's of the Federation that Picard mentions, so lots of room for meeting them and others.

Don't care about "timelines". A good show is what I want.

The scant details suggest this NuNuTrek will not be part of the Prime or JJ universes, but have completely new characters and setting. Sounds like they're starting over with a clean sheet of paper. Hang on! If it turns out to be a good one, this could be a very interesting ride.

If it has a good and imaginative premise and the studio attracts great writers and producers, this could really open up a "new frontier". If it's just another Hollyweird hack, wake us when it's over, because it will be over sooner than you think.

It is very interesting to see that the poll already has a very clear tendency towards the prime universe. And all the NuTrek defenders, of which this board seems to be existing almost in its entirety, are not voicing their opinion here, and declaring how important it was to continue with the JJ-Verse? I must have entered a parallel quantum existance by accident...
From the press release, one could guess, that all they have decided on is that there will be a new Star Trek show. Where, when and how was probably not even on the table, when Kurzman signed the contract. I wonder how much influence the fans are going to have on that decision, considering that this show seems to be aimed at the hardcore trekkers, being on a streaming site. I also wonder why this show is supposed to be very american, when Star Trek is internationally sucessful. Would it not exclude a lot of (paying) audiences, and limit a lot of the storytelling if this Show is only covering american topics?
I am glad, that TPTB think that Star Trek is not completely dead. But I am slightly worried, that I won't recognise the final result anymore. It could be even further of the original than the JJTrek.
I hope there will be more details on this soon by CBS.

Definitely not feeling the Daedalus Class ship idea.

As others have said, make it so the show's technically in both Prime and Alternate Realities. Anytime prior to the U.S.S. Kelvin either being destroyed or not being destroyed.

Prime Universe would be good. I just don't like the fact that Picard, Sisko, Janeway and crews simply don't exist in JJverse.

As a Star Trek Online player, I have an additional secret wish that the new series will keep events in STO as canon. It won't happen of course, who actually cares what happens in a game anyway.

Like I said in the other thread, I dont care which universe its set in.

Just set it far away in the future. Maybe hundreds of years after the end of Voyager and by that time no one cares if Vulcan blew up in the past or Khan was a white guy or indian. Vulcan can be rebuild, Earth may have exploded or anything. Planets can be rebuilt and renamed and history distorted.

I want Trek to be about unlimited Future. Not being constrained by what has happened in other series. No more prequels that need to worry about not stepping on butterflies.

Probably not set on an Enterprise. Have a starship that's literally the recruitment poster for the Federation Council Chamber. Perhaps even down to being called U.S.S. Federation. Part of the charter agreed insists one Starfleet vessel is the positive discrimination, multi-cultural, not exclusively human example. Full of diverse aliens working together for the first time. Wider range of species than we've seen before or ever again. Possibly denoting it isn't entirely successful looking at other shows (apart from DS9), or something that was a manufactured PR exercise back when the Fed were starting out, trying to grow its interstellar community.

JJ's of course. It's the most popular one. Best for CBS
