Hi guys I am new to this site and have been searching for plans to build a holodeck door for my renovations to my recording studio here in Melbourne, I came across a thread here which had some valuable info posted from various members including Redgeneral but was wondering if anyone has the actual measurements for the two interlocking doors from TNG series, I plan to make a set of these using an electric door mechanism and will of course be using original sound effects to go with them. I found plans for the arch and the opening but not the doors, can anyone please help. Thanks
The simplest thing might be to search Youtube for episodes with those doors. Then pause the scene and do a screen capture. Then take measurements from the resulting picture. First I would decide on a height for the floor to the ceiling of the arch and then scale the door details from there. For a in-theatre movie promotion for Nemesis when it came out. I actually transformed our entrance hall of the theatre into a section of corridor of the Enterprise-E. And that's how I did it. And it looked great. Customers thought that the work had been professionally done.
Thanks Captain Rob, yeah I am getting the feeling this is what I will have to do, I am currently updating my STTNG collection from DVD to Blu-ray (up to season 3 so far) and the new remastered footage is stunning so screen shots from this might be the way to go but I was hoping someone out there may have original specs as it would be great to make it as original as possible. Cheers for the reply
Check out this thread In fact, Redgeneral has done some excellent work recreating the corridor sets using the extant set blueprints and some screencaps: https://www.flickr.com/photos/99878876@N02/albums/72157650484616422 No holodeck door as yet, but there should be enough information to get you started
Thanks Mytran, yeah I have been going through his flickr pics for the last 2 hours now WOW this guy is dedicated to his stuff my hat goes off to him. There is everything there except for the doors. Anyway the arch plans will help greatly as I should be able to calculate the rest of the measurements using them as a starting/reference point. Thanks for the reply and I will be sure to start a thread when construction starts and document it, I will also be happy to share any of my measurements and plans with this site as it is a fantastic source of info.
Going with the screencap method, you should be able to use the actors' heights as a reference for the scale. Most of their heights should be listed on IMDB. For example, IIRC, Frakes and Dorn are both 6'4"
So...am I to understand you're going to build a holodeck door, complete with sound effects, as the entry to your recording studio?
Thanks trekker670 Yeah most likely this will be my only option and the info I have gathered from this awesome site has helped greatly, my issue is getting the "jig saw puzzle" of the two interlocking doors to work nice and smooth, remember that the original set doors were operated by stage hands from behind the scenes where as I wish to make this happen with a full electronic door mechanism so neat fitting doors are a must if this project is to work. Thanks for your insight and any further suggestions are welcome as I will be re-inventing the wheel a little here.
Outside of actual blueprints, Creation recreated the doors and have used them at the Vegas conventions the past few years. You may be able to reach out to them and see if they'd be willing to share info, although it's probably doubtful. The recent TNG VR includes the doors, so you might be able to get some info from him as well. www.enterprise3dproject.com https://youtu.be/uK9ijZeHWjI?t=4m40s And also Donny's project: http://rigel7studios.blogspot.com/2013/09/tng-corridors.html
Thanks for the links, the enterprise3dproject is awesome I have emailed Jason so hopefully he may be able to help me, if not I will follow up on rigel7studios but I did notice he was quite particular on copyright issues at the bottom of one of his pages, great artwork though. Cheers again
Thanks I will be sure to start a thread when construction begins for all those that are interested. I hope to start in the next 2 months
