This is not something I created or had any part in, non what so ever. MODS, if this is considered bad form, please delete. I checked the rules, but I couldn't find anything about wether or not this is ok.

However, I feel that this mesh and design is so well done, it had to be shared. Especially the backstory about why it looks different then the Saber class we all know and love or hate, is pretty good.

Yeah, I consider Dak Phoenix to be somewhat of an enigma.

He does amazing 3D modeling, but he doesn't post multiple renders of all of his work, or he takes down renders of his work from time to time, never to see the light of day again.

I wish that show renders of all of his designs, like he would do what he did with his Saber.

Dak sits between the oldest that plays with studio max and star trek in the net. His site is running since the old days of Wolfpack site (now just a frozen site) - 1998. :)
If my memory serves, he had some trouble loooong time ago with somebody using his renderings and meshes. This can be one of his main reasons in not posting orthos or release his meshes. But he is still one of the greatest all around.

I used to fool around with MAX myself, and I remember Dak's work from back then. If the story about the trouble with meshes and such is true, that's quite a shame.

Still, it's nice to see some of his work every now and then.

Well, that would explain why I can't get enough views of his works. Of course, an idiot ruining it for everyone!

Ooh! That always gets me so steamed!!:scream:

I love everything about his design except for the nacelles (but to be fair, he was basing them off the real Saber's nacelles, which I don't like either). They're far too angly, John Eaves-y for a ship with a 6XXXX registry. IMHO, they should be more like the Galaxy class nacelles.

With that said, I'd have much rather seen this little ship instead of all those old Oberths in TNG.

Well those were pretty great. I've got a resin kit of this ship that this inspires me to try and finish it as close to that work as close as possible.

The forward shuttle bays in the half circle notch of the forward section on the original design never made sense to me.

I like the MK-I Way better! the original was just to blocky for a federation ship! I like the new design, that one pays more homage to the ships of the 24 century, it has a Galaxy/ Kyushu style too it I love it! :bolian:

Keep in mind that none of the six CGI models specifically made for FC were meant to be seen up close. Even the Akira was seen quickly flying around so that its lo-rez nature wasn't distinguishable. Even when they were remapped for use in DS9 they weren't redone the way they should have been.

This is how I would have liked to see these ships: with more of the curvy Galaxy-class-family aesthetic instead of the angular hulls and nacelles.

Why did he change the design of the Allegiance in those images? It had a Galaxy style saucer before/
