But why would the Nexus echo of Kirk age twenty years? After all, time is supposed to have no meaning in the Nexus.

Yeah, scrap the Nexus. I just don't want to see it on screen again. Or hear it used on screen as a means to bring a character back. I really don't expect the writers to go back to that well, given the mixed fan base reaction to GEN.

    No Nexus. Try this on.

When nuKirk went into the "Copycat OrigSpock Death" dilithium chamber, residual chroniton particles from a routine Chroniton Sweep surrounded his Essence (no, not that Essence, pay attention ) and had to expel it somehow or the particles themselves would be out of phase. Through a Chronitron Labyrinth , the Particles sought out the life force of any Kirk ; Nu, old, Denny, any Kirk, and linked to him.The Particles found KirkKirk in one of the TOS transporter beams, duplicated him, and brought him "forward". No one was the wiser.

    Benefits:

Fanwank with MASSIVE clean-up of Essence (yes, THAT Essence)
EgoShat satisfied and validated for the 50th
A "Canon" way to theoretically bring any of the Old Gang back, 'specially Scotty!
A chance to see Kirk and Spock together one more time.

    "Surely, the best of times,"

    I've just got an idea.

The first scene of the next movie has Nimoy and Shatner dressed in civilian clothes looking at a PAD showing a scene from STID.
Spock says "Jim, That's not Khan".
Kirk says "No it isn't Spock"
Spock says "Shall we tell them?"
Kirk says "Let them work out some things on their own". They both walk off.
And no explanation for Kirk and get on with the rest of the movie.

Guinan seemed to know what was going on. She explained that her echo was there precisely because of the transporter 'ripping' her away. (So there were probably echos of the other El-Aurian survivors as well, but not Kirk, because he wasn't transported out.)

But the 'Nexus' was a built in trapdoor in just the same way as B4 was for Data in Nemesis. It might never be used, but it's there in case...

She didn't actually say that. Picard's response to her could be interpreted that way, but it could also be interpreted differently.

  12. Kirk will hatch from a Planet Genesis egg :)

As for the nexus, it wanders through our solar system every 39.2 years so Pine goes in for some reason and meets his older self played by Shatner who warns him about Khan or some other threat.

By the way, why did no one in the 23rd century or the 24th century know about the nexus when it comes around to our solar system every 39.2 years? This is one of the major plot flaws that makes GEN such a poor film.

Yeah, that and the rest of the plot. Makes the other Next Gen movies look fantastic...

Maybe Shatner will be James T. Kirk Jr., they'll use CGI to place Shatner's face on an infants body.

It would be cool if Shatner played old Kirk from the Mirror Universe, who was transported into the past of an alternate dimension by his own Tantalus field device, and marooned there for 50 years.

Upon being rescued by the Enterprise crew from Tantalus IV, bitter old Mirror-Kirk would then learn that his old nemesis Spock had also ended up in this universe as well, and would go about plotting his revenge. ...

This premise was pitched for Enterprise before 'In A Mirror Darkly' got made!

Well I'm all for the Mirror Kirk and would be the more easier way to bring him in. And I'd also like to see Young Kirk end up being put up against the older, more experienced, more evil Kirk who could end up predicting his actions to a degree, which eventually would lead to the end of the story where Young Kirk does the same thing..... Kind of leans towards Nemesis a bit with the Older Good Picard vs. Younger Evil Picard, but in reverse and still ties the past-history with the new-history is that makes any sense.

Sure there's people who think that the new Star Trek movies must stand on their own and no longer have ties to the old Trek, but lets not forget that the new Trek movies wouldn't exist in the first place if it wasn't for the original timeline and the events that unfolded.

The story that was supposed to happen in ST Enterprise existed prior to the timeline being adjusted by Spock and Nero and therefore, Valid.

But isn't an echo like a fingerprint? No matter how it got there or how the owner of it left, a fingerprint or evidence is always left behind.

What about the Guardian of Forever! That could easily be used.
