Here is the current state of the redesign, on it's 10th iteration as of 2022 (WIP for this one starts on page 6: ___________________________________________________________________________________ 2014: Well, here we go again. As a Trek fan who's learning CG (Blender), what better way to do it than making the old Connie? Back when I started this project (2011) it SUCKED. I was just a freshman in high school doing an after school Blender class, (which I loved). By the time I got to version 5, it was coming along okay, so I posted it over at scifi-meshes.com. You may have seen it there. Now I am on version 10, which I started in August. I wanted to get some more opinions from more Trek fans, so I decided to post it here. With this version, my goal is to reboot the Connie, but keep the same basic shape, but also to not go crazy on the detailing and greebling. I also have plans to make some interior stuff. Here is a mash up of versions 1-9 to see my improvement, starting from when I first started learning CG (I didn't get very far on 7,8, and 9, so not worth rendering):
Nice work! Your progress is excellent. I voted for 1701 on your poll, but the more I'm watching Shaw's Phase II thread, the more that ship may be edging on the TOS ship. For my money, anyhow... --Alex
Great looking Enterprise! I voted for the 'A' and 'C'. The former because of the new level of detail in the Constitution-Class and the latter because I love the Ambassador-Class.
Lovely renders so far! Are you planning on keeping those 4 trenches on the upper saucer?(6-2013) They look a little too TNG-ish, but maybe that's just me
I really am falling in love with the Phase II version of the Enterprise. Shaw has done an incredible job bringing it to life. I'd love for Diamond Select to do a version of it. It would be a day one purchase for me.
Thanks everyone! Is there anything specific that anyone thinks needs changing so far, no matter how small? I like the Phase II design, but I think the nacelle design needs some work. Who knows, maybe I'll tackle that one sometime. They were also on versions 5 and 7, but I threw them out.
I'm not going to vote, but I am going to say that the E and F are my favorites. But then again, I feel that those are completely different animals from the original. I really liked Jefferies' notion that all of the equipment was inside the ship, and could easily be reached and repaired, but I also liked how Probert added all of those details, especially for the weapons and RCS thrusters (unfortunately, there wasn't any such details on the original that notated where such equipment was). Hanzhefu, you clearly have a gift for 3D modeling, something I hope to get to, when I finally get the chance. It was clear by your 3rd attempt that your modeling skills had improved, and they clearly improved into your fourth attempt, but by your fifth attempt, I'd have to say that your ability with modeling and effects have reached a point where with enough practice, you'll be on the same level as the best. Wherever you decide to take your modeling next, I look forward to seeing your work in the future.
I just love what you did to the nacelle supports at their base. That would fix the AMT "droop" misalignment.
Very nice, and clean. I like how you handled the side cut outs, too, instead of them just being carved out of the side of the secondary hull. -Ricky
The nacelles on your presumably current WIP are some of the better TOS inspired versions out there. Great job!
