Gyrojet guns remind me of Star Frontiers. Anyone remember that one?

    Sorry I'm off topic.

Was that a game in a flat box from the 70s? I remember something that had hex shaped grids for starfields that was WAY too complicated for me to figure out how to play, it used to be advertised on the back of sci fi mags. I know Gyrojets from my grandfather's old gun manuals and later, from reading Larry Niven stories.

It was from TSR, as a futuristic type role playing game with a hex grid spaceship game associated with it. It had two 10 sided dice for percentage rolls. I think it was released in 82. I knew they didn't make that up, but they used it quite a bit. They also had regular bullet weapons, needle shooting guns, and lasers.

You obviously never read Damon Lindelof's screenplay for Prometheus, then. Roddenberry's writing is downright subtle by comparison.

I doubt you could pay me to read that guy's PROMETHEUS, I feel bad enough just for having seen the damned movie, which was probably my biggest letdown theatrically outside of TMP and the MATRIX sequels.

I liked it okay enough, but that's me. Hell, I even appreciated what they were trying to do with JAWS Revenge--it just didn't work out.

Something just finally clicked with me the other day. An old Enterprise design first seen in one of Geoffrey Mandel's Star Fleet Handbooks in 1978, said to be by Mike Minor for Star Trek II:

The script excerpt of The God Thing says it's the 'familiar' form of the Enterprise in drydock (not some radical redesign, certainly not some all-new ship), with an 'improved, new' warp nacelle open on the side for antimatter refueling. The design seen above seems perfect for such an image.

I'd always wondered where that design fit into the Phase II timeline. But given that the rest of the design (except for a smaller deflector dish) is otherwise identical to the TOS version, and they were talking a $5 million budget in 1975, maybe I was thinking of the wrong Star Trek II! Maybe this was the redesign intended for The God Thing. Maybe they would've got the TOS model back from the Air & Space Museum somehow, slapped on the new engines and roll camera.

I had really high expectations, which is like screaming to be let down. Even so, some of the dumber crewmembers are SO dumb that I haven't even ever rewatched it, despite it being very pretty and having the best CG on CG ship collision I could imagine.

I wouldn't put give that image much weight. It looks like a fan trying to interpret a concept painting, but concepts are just that, concepts. It doesn't mean such a design was every seriously considered.

That is called the Endeavour class by some--I've seen those nacelles on FJ's Constitution blueprints--what with the more chunky saucer.
