Ignoring all that because madame moderator has ruled on the matter.

    GUINAN*
    You don't.

    *"Q Who"

Mostly because you have to have actually written to get read. And any of the first scripts you write are probably not going to be salable. My first scripts weren't.

¿Why so? As with anything, a beginner doesn't know what they don't know, and can't be expected to, because they are just that: beginners. As such, of course they're starting from a position of almost total ignorance. And that's not a put-down. What else could they be?

Honestly, I think people look at screenplays and show bibles and think, "that's not so hard", because all they can see is the end result, but the words on the pages are just the tip of the iceberg. Most of what's making the script work is below the surface, invisible unless you know what to look for and how. Sans experience a beginner simply cannot see most of what's going on down there in the depths of structure and themes. An experienced screenwriter can watch a finished film and see the narrative clockwork ticking away in the background.

As @jespah has said, CBS isn't going to look at your Star Trek pitch. Lots of people, some with some with industry cred, have tried it and gotten nowhere. So there's the inexperience wall again.

Furthermore, and here's the cold shower, because of the way Hollywood works the "creator" of a show is a profit-participant, and buying a concept from an outsider means giving away a chunk of the pie to someone else. And said creator is going to be expected to be mightily involved in the writing process of episodes, and if you have no credits or experience, you're an unproven entity and too high a risk to take a chance on.

So, still want to be a screenwriter? Still want to sell a show? Then here's what you have to do:

    1. Write scripts. There's no shortcut here. You have to write and write a lot to get the hang of the form. And don't just write Star Trek, because then you're just copying some set formulas and bring nothing new to the table.

    2. Read scripts. Read a lot of scripts, and, seriously, not Star Trek scripts...because the same as 1.

    3. Read up on story and screenplay structure. NoFilmSchool has a lot of articles (example) about stuff like this.

    4. Watch TV and keep your finger on the pulse of the state of the art. No one's now's going to make a show like those tailored for the old direct-to-syndication model like TNG or DS9 unless they're Seth MacFarlane.

    In short: Pay. Your. Dues.

Otherwise, you're just a another wanna-be amateur sans the most fundamental basics of the craft expecting to jump to the head of the line. And that would deserve but one reply:

    ADMIRAL CLANCY
    The sheer fucking hubris.

Yes when I originally was making the OP I was trying to decide on whether or not to put it in Fan Fiction or Fan Production. Because I wrote it in a TV show format, I put it here.

Oh you're not bursting my bubble, I was aware of that before I typed my first word of this project. :)

Sorry, that was rhetorical question. But thanks though.

I kinda see this is in the gray area of fiction versus productions.

You do know you can always grab your phone, costumes, friends (remotely), make props, and try to film something or other, yes? Will it be oh my God awesome it's Emmy time?

    Egads, no.

Will it be fun and diverting, particularly now?

    It could be.

Thank you. Finally. I was getting tired of you trying to railroad the thread in a certain direction.

Now if anyone is interested in commenting on what I actually posted in the OP and not on what they don't see yet, that would be great. Good, bad doesn't matter.

I still need some characters. Engineer, science officer(s)

Maurice is an industry professional. But hey, don't listen to him. It's your right.

As I clearly stated his advice and insight was welcomed. People seem to either miss or ignore my posts. He wanted to talk about things I wasn't prepared for or interested in. Please explain why I should have to do that? This is my thread I started it. Shouldn't we discuss what I mentioned I wanted to talk about on the first page? lol I have to talk about what Maurice wants? Are you serious?

I mean I stated I haven't done anything with this since the announcement of Picard. How long ago was that? I am stuck at home bored with COVID-19 happening so I decided to share and have try and have some fun with it and brace for the Wesley Crusher anti-fan. lol If it wasn't for this virus I still wouldn't have shared it

Why do I need film expertise for that?

Well this sub forum is for discussing fan films, and film-making. so if you’re not interested in talking about such things then this may not be the right place for it. Also, welcome to the internet, this is a discussion forum. Just because you posted a topic doesn’t mean you control the direction of it any more than the rest of us.

And I have a right not to respond. Maurice gave me the distinct impression that he was intentionally trying to frustrate me by taking this to an area I had no interest in. Maurice asked me on the first page what I was interested in discussing. He blatantly ignored that and tried to discuss about things that haven't even occurred to me. And once again, you are conveniently ignoring my posts.

I said I wanted a discussion. I want to talk about my characters. I want to talk about my lack of characters. I want to discuss what you and others see from the content of post # 1. Is that really hard. If that isn't what you people want to do, then why are you here? Just to cause me trouble?

You say this is forum and open discussion? Well I call it trolling. Could you strike up a convo about My Little Pony in here too?

Oh and btw, if you think my thread is out of place or against the rules, the proper thing to do would be to report it or ignore it, not confront the OP about it.

    Cheers.

I actually agree with you on the fact you shouldn't have a long back story. But you should have a paragraph or two. Which is what I did. I wanted to leave them wide open to possibilities. I didn't discuss family, or romantic relationships. In my opinion you can't create a character with no background. I disagree with your assessment of that particular point. I do agree that the characters should have more know about them, about what they will be doing. Some people can still talk about my characters without having the info you require. But that said, one day I very well put up that info you require. If you feel you need more info before you can participate in this thread, then I suggest you will have to wait for a spell.

    Cheers.

For you maybe. I'm enjoying seeing a new member bust into the forum and dictate how things should be. Ignoring tips and advice of people with years of experience.....

And maybe it would have been better if Maurice introduced himself. That way I would better known the context of his original questions. You people all know him, I don't. I didn't a single post by him before this thread and haven't read anything else posted by him outside this thread.

According to Maurice and Bixby, my thread has no place here because I cannot answer their questions. As a mod, do you agree with that?
