This thread reeks of leftist handwringing. As Ed Norton would say: "Shuh-eeeeeeeeeeeeesh!"

And I'd like to gratuitously add that I live about 40 miles southwest of his birthplace. :)

I thought she was from Brazil. Or is that just where she was teaching at the beginning of Broken Bow?

I was going to post more about characters' places of origin and how they help or detract from their characterization, but I'm thinking that's grounds for another thread...

    Great post.

Sci-Fi has always been about controversial topics, and pointing out problems to society. I think this is a great example.

I'm hoping in the end, they find out the Xindi are not so bad. Afterall, they were only ... in a sense ... defending themselves against a future attack. Just like the U.S. claimed to do when we went to Iraq. Oh -- then it turned out to be about oil and that we didn't like Saddam.

I'm also hoping they paint a negative picture of the Ashcrofts of the world, and point out racism we've developed because of 9/11. The U.S. seems prejudiced against Middle Easterners, even those who were born and raised in the U.S. How sad.

Better that than rightist neckwringing by leftists who then wring their hands about how un-leftist they just were. :D

tafkats, I was under the impression that she was teaching in Brazil. People have said here that they read elsewhere (AH! It's canon, haha!) that she's from Japan.

So why are Roddenberry's anti-religion views a perfectly acceptable agenda for Star Trek to push?

And for Anonymous above, being Anonymous pretty much sums you and your opinion up, doesn't it?

I think we can see now that the moral and political approach of the season has been somewhat more...ambiguous than endorsing Bushism. :D
