We are not talking about Star Trek as a whole we are talking about Enterprise. And what difference does that make.

What if Enterprise was not apart of the Star Trek universe? Would it then be ok to still watch the show, post here and say you hate it? I noticed that nobody took me up on my request to recommend a Buffy and/or Firefly board so I can post there. I know two of our mods and a lot of the posters here are big fans of these shows yet not a single one recommended a single site. I wonder why that is?

You mean all the "hyper over reactions" of gloating that we got from the bashers?

Gloating about something like this on a fan board is trolling, plain and simple. The mods are tolerant to a fault where this is concerned.

No, but then that's a moot point--it is clearly intended to be a part of the Star Trek universe. Heck, this year they even put "Star Trek" into the title, specifically in an apparent attempt to guilt lapsed 'Trekkies back into watching. In that context, it makes perfect sense for 'Trekkies to be frustrated by what they perceive to be a disappointing development in the 'Trek universe. And it only makes sense that these disaffected 'Trekkies would come to this board to talk about their frustrations with the show. It makes as much sense as a St. Louis resident to be frustrated by poor perfomance by the Arizona Cardinals as it does for a TOS 'Trekkie to be disappointed with ENT.

Eh. If it's cancelled, it's cancelled. It's not a big deal. After all, it's only a TV show.

Absolutely. That's part of what makes "disaffected trekkies" watching it and coming to a fan board to taunt people who like it so very, very sad.

If I start a thread in the DS9 forum celebrating the fact that DS9 is dead as a doornail, Vash will warn my red ass for trolling so fast all your head will spin. Or, I suppose that I could, hypothetically, prove the point by starting a thread detailing how very, very pleased I am by the fact that the bashers will never get what they want from the Trek franchise again. That kind of gloating, however, would be unwise -- I'm trying to save my next warning for something worthwhile.

Starting threads in this forum that gloat at the expense of "Enterprise" fans is just trolling.

^ True enough. You'd think people would have a little more tact.

But if we all had tact we wouldn't have this thread now would we.

Hey, why am I posting here? *runs off to insult fans*

Indeed. This past week I saw many posts (on both sides of the fence) that were inexusable. And I was really appalled by the moderators' lack of action to bring things down. Things got ugly, personal, nasty-- and on the whole I just saw a bunch of threads closed, and a few ineffectual "hey stop thats".

Mods: when the job calls for a SWAT team, don't send a crossing guard.

Seriously, if you want to see improvement, start knocking some skulls. Hard.

Thank you for saying something that desperately needed to be said. This board has gotten seriously out of control the last few days!

^ Yup. Boys -- Volpone, Stewey, Gallactus, Dennis, etc. the thing is: Stewey has every right to be on the TrekBBS. He has every right to say what he doesn't like about the show. Dennis has every right to love the show, and say what he likes about it. The bottom line is: both people are interested in making Trek better in their way.

Can we stop the insults and silliness? Dennis, it is my personal opinion you should tone down what you type as I believe you are aggrivating others without knowing it. (I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt here.)

Personally, I like ENT. I also like reading what Stewey and others have to say. I don't blindly love the show. There are things I would want to change. They have some good ideas. Can't we be respectful to each other, even if we don't agree?

    ~ Commodore64

P.S. Mods, can you come out of hiding? Seriously. This kinda stuff needs a firm, but loving hand. And when you do come out of hiding, can you address this, please?

I totally agree. Like i've said before, I like ENT (not blindly, but I do like it) but I have no problem debating my opinion with others who feel differently, as long as they are willing to do so in a mature, respectful manner. It's the condecending arrogance and personal insults I've seen around here far too much the past few days (and, yes, people on both sides are guilty of it) that's left me one step away from leaving this board for good. Just for the record before anyone jumps in...nobody has hurt my feelings. I simply want to be in a forum where I can discuss and debate a show I like in a respectful, constructive manner and, while the vast majority of people around here do just that, there are a very few on both sides that are very good at coming into a thread and turning a good discussion into an insult fest very quickly. I guess what I'm trying (in a very long-winded manner) is it's not what you say, but how you say it.

HOLY CRAP! C-64 is right! With his sky blue screen and clunky blue characters he has showed me the true meaning of Christmas! :D

OK, all kidding aside, you are right on the money here, C-64. Whether intentionally or not, both sides of the fence have gotten quite good at pushing the other side's buttons. The biggest two stumbling blocks here are 1)When someone makes what, on the surface, appears to be a hare-brained comment and then refuses to support it and 2)When someone else compounds that by popping in to put in their two cents by saying just how absolutely right the initial observation was--but still not explaining WHY they thought the initial post was absolutely right. IMO, this is just "twisting the knife"--it takes a potentially inflammatory statement and pours gasoline on it.

And the grading threads, the grading threads... These are literally impossible to talk about without mentioning at least one end of the grading spectrum. When a "good" episode of ENT comes out inevitably people (notice, I didn't say Gushers) start saying "I wonder what Stewey will say about THIS one :p ." Or "NOW what do you think, Stewey  ?" And then when Stewey is inevitably baited into posting (or maybe he just finally got around to it) they all pile on and say "WHAT??!! How DARE you give this episode an 'F'!!?? You're clearly nothing but a mindless Basher!" I can think of another poster who has often posted along the lines of: "I didn't buy Archer's motivation, the plot was shaky, and the science in the episode was lacking. I give it an A+++!" Just how often does someone from the "Basher" camp pile onto this guy? Not very damned often.

While it may, at times be a matter of valid curiousity that someone wants to know what another poster thought about an episode, a lot of the time it's just trolling and should be warned as such.

    Agree with two above.

And I'm glad this little 1980s computer could show you the true meaning of Christmas. Clunky characters my ass! I've got it kickin' old skool. Clunky is making a come back! ;)

Volpone, I find you well-reasoned and mostly good natured. May all your posts be merry and bright! And may all your Star Treks be alright!

I agree entireley with your grading threads observation, because it's repeated and proven week after week. I never notice the sniper nests in the thread, because I usually just scroll right down the thread without reading it and just post the grade. But yeah, sometimes I see the numerous posts of A+++ grades, roll my eyes and just ignore them and I don't even bother posting them. I think they are wrong but what the hell they can say what they think about the episode, I don't really care.

You see, it's not really worth bitching about a goddam grade someone gives to an episode, we watch teh same episode but we see it from different perspectives. I just wish that people could live and let live. It's just that it's always the same small minority of people who feel the need to have a go at the "bashers" in the grading threads every week, they don't give a shit what grades they give, as long as they can cause as much disruption as they can to satisfy themselves.

Y'know I don't come here to spend all my time handing out warnings and spending all day looking at the warnings page I like reading and joining the discussions too. But

    Fine!!

You want harder modding, you got it. Don't come bitchin to me though when y'all get warnings and bans though because you can't think about what and how you say stuff for 2 secs before you start typing.

Spank us, LC! Spank us! We've been ever so naughty. :D

[edit]Oh, and out of curiousity, just where the heck is this "Notify Mod" button everyone is talking about? I've looked around the screen about three times now and can't find the damned thing. It's not the "Contact Us" link, is it?

1 warning for masochistic tendencies. :)

It's the third icon in the line "Post Extras" below each posting.

I won't mind as long as it continues for more than a couple of days and there's a consistent effort made to warn people across the board. If it turns out to be one of these things where people get hit hard for a couple of days and then we have a "Moderator Actions" row and someone winds up resigning and everything slowly goes back to the way it was, then it's a waste of time. We've been down this road a couple of times. :(

LC, are you going to give yourself a warning for that one. ;) No, I'm just kidding. I swear!

*You* do a pretty darned good job. I think you're very fair. I'm hope you understand, I was concerned that the above posts went on for two pages unchecked. I don't want to see people get the hammer (unless it's the Hebrew Hammer -- funny stuff). Many times, I think just telling people you're around and to "watch it" is enough. I've seen you do that before. It's pretty effective.

To be fair. I do use notify mod. I've used it three times and haven't seen anything happen (not even a mod come in and say, "Knock it off"). So I may have a personal bone to pick. My bad.

And, I've been trying to step in where I see some problems to ease tensions when I can be more objective. Maybe you want more of that -- us trying to ease tensions before asking you guys to step in?
