Hi I just heard the news that fuller is going to be a show runner for the new star trek show which is great news because he had a lot of involvement with old trek! Now im just wondering with him as the show runner if any other old trek writers could come on to write episodes like ron moore?

He's being kept busy with Outlander in full swing just now... but who knows.

I'd love Ron Moore coming onboard. Huge fan of BSG. I think the writing staff should have a good mix of a few Star Trek veterans and those with a diverse writing background who've done other things. I always think of Maria and Andre Jacquemetton who wrote a few mediocre episodes of Enterprise and went on to write some of my absolute favorite episodes of "Mad Men" and I always thought "What happened?!" I guess when it's a fit, it's a fit.

All the interviews that I've read from Ron Moore give me the impression that he has a rebel son attitude to Star Trek. He loves it, it was his home, but he alternates between wanting nothing to do with it anymore and wanting to come back in guns blazing to make it his own.

    Brilliant writer all the same.

Yeah his version of Battlestar Galactica was basically rebelling against Star Trek's strict rules of episode writing. He's currently busy with Outlander, but I hope he has a bit of spare time to contribute an episode or two for the new series.

More likely other writers who have worked with Fuller in the past. Fuller wasn't hired because he was an experienced star trek writer, he was hired because he was an experienced TV producer. CBS is not going out there looking for star trek writers. They've now hired Fuller who is now going out and hiring writers he wants to work with. If there is any connection, I'd guess it's people who worked on Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisy's, and Heroes.

I respect Ron Moore (even though I think BSG fell apart on the later seasons) but for one thing...he's busy and personally I think it's time for some fresh faces in the writer's room which will I hope will be as diverse as the future cast. I am an optimist. :)

I think Moore is past writing under other people. He did that for years and left because of the way things were going with Voyager. He is a show-runner.

Was Ron Moore approached before Fuller to be the showrunner? Someone at Dark Horizons was peddling this rumor, but it's the first I've ever heard of it.

I think if they got the core group of writers from TNG (Shankaar, Moore, Echevarria, and Braga), we would have a phenomenal series. I only leave out Michael Piller because of his passing (R.I.P sir.) But that group, They're writing styles really complemented each other and are what gave us some of the best seasons of TNG, and trek in general. I had the opportunity to watch the Season 3 blu-ray extras and the Seth Macfarlane interview with the writers provided a fantastic insight into the writers room, and you could see how well they all played off each other.

They need new writers, probably beginning with people Fuller's worked with in the last few years.

Those guys did their thing, they were involved with 25 seasons worth of Trek already.
It's time for some new folks.

I'd love it if here were involved, but also don't feel like its necessary. Moore et al did their time.

Time for some fresh (and I hope diverse) faces in the writer's room.

I have no problem with Trek alumni coming back to write an episode here or there, but I agree with the consensus that it's time for new writers to take the reins. I'd also like to see a return to the TOS practice of getting established SF writers to pen episodes.

I'm sure he has an open invitation to contribute to the reboot and it won't surprise me to see his name on an episode during the first season.

"We need writers like Gene Roddenberry, D. C. Fontana and David Gerrold if this show is to be good."

    - Fans in 1987

Only when the old guard moved on and the fresh blood like Michael Piller and Ronald D. Moore came in did TNG reach its potential.

    Let's not repeat that mistake.

If Fontana and Gerrold hadn't been forced out, TNG would have been a very different show, and debatably considerably better.
