Back cover copy from Dayton Ward's site: https://daytonward.wordpress.com/2015/11/25/back-cover-copy-for-the-star-trek-legacies-trilogy/
^ It will likely be corrected at any moment, but as of now the blurb for Best Defense on Dayton's blog is missing its final paragraph. The complete back-cover copy for my book in the trilogy can be found here: http://davidmack.pro/writing/best-defense/
These sound great. Hopefully by the time they come out I'll be caught up enough to be ready to read them as they are released. Dayton's mention of Constellations makes me miss the short story and novella collections we used to get.
David Mack isn't spilling any beans on Facebook, but I'm wondering if that parallel universe in Best Defence will be the shiny one with all the lens flares. Or maybe the dark beardy one?
These sound great. Nice to see they might be tying into the Vanguard series a bit, too (going by Dayton's back-cover copy).
A device that sends people to alternate universes? Reminds me of COE - The Art of the Comeback, featuring a MacGuffin which Montgomery Scott theorized to be the prime universe's version of the mirror universe's Tantalus field.
TWIST ENDING: The Prime universe is the alternate one, and the Klingons are preparing to invade the woman's home universe.
Now it works. Sounds all great. I hope the Cross Cult folks are going to consider a translation sometime in the foreseeable future.
Legacies sounds like a great trilogy of books. I'm definitely looking forward to reading this miniseries coming out next year.
Do we know yet whether these will fit into the existing (modern) Pocket continuity, or be "their own thing" like Crucible?
We're not worrying about it one way or the other. There might be some subtle nods to elements of the ongoing literary continuity, but we wanted the trilogy to be able to stand alone as a TOS event for the anniversary, so that any fan of the original series could pick them up and dive right in.
Exactly. There was never a moment where we "officially" decided whether the trilogy fits into this "continuity" or another. We just wanted to write an epic TOS saga that would appeal to both casual fans, excited by the 50th Anniversary, and long-time readers. Although alert readers may notice a few subtle nods to one of my old stories in Book One.
