Ahem... The Expanse is a bad example of this. It does absolutely change it's premise every season or so. Of course it's based on different books, so it has to do it by design. But they do it beautifully. If anything, The Expanse is kind of anthology show I bet Discovery wants to be. Same characters (more or less), same ships (more or less), but different stories to tell from season to season.
I'm just relieved that when they went for the reset button, they didn't actually do a "they never existed" kind of reset vis a vis Mike and the spore drive.
