Spoilers The Debris Series Spectacular Thread

Let's say sometime in the distant future that car Elon Musk shot out into space crashes on an inhabited planet. And if you touch one of the tires it makes you phase through solid material, and if you touch the steering wheel it makes you float, and if you touch the windshield wiper it clones you. Why would any of that even happen? That's what Debris is starting to feel like.

Same as in the Flash, exposure to Dark Matter makes you Fast, or Control weather, or go rubbery.. Or Fantasic 4 exposure to Cosmic Rays gives 4 different powers.. Just a cliché trope.

Everything seems to depend on emotions. Does each episode end with someone crying? This is getting old. Losing interest fast.

 

Another week, more sobbing. So boring. Too much focus on non-important people and not enough on the alien debris.

 

This show has gotten very tedious fast. Dunno what the writers were thinking. Doubt it'll get a second season.

 

You'd think a TV show would understand the rule of "show, don't tell." The audience should see what's going on, not just the action but with the characters as well. To stop all the action while some character suddenly unloads their tragic personal trauma, unbidden, is not going to bring the audience in. It ruins the natural flow of the story and keeps the audience from learning about characters' personalities on their own. It's not how people normally behave, regardless of the setting.

To have the debris doing every kind of damage imaginable is pretty farfetched, but there's a lot more in this show that could be interesting--- the International plots, government conspiracies and competition, etc. The agency director, who we know only a little about, is really interesting, because we have to watch the scenes with him to find the clues and figure him out. That's what interesting, because they show us things, instead of telling us.

Why they didn't do that with the main characters is a mystery to me. If your main characters aren't interesting, all the alien technology /special effects in the world are not going to keep people watching.

 

I guess I am glad I am not following this show now...guess we will wait for Manifest to start up again (which this show kinda feels like)

 

The random crap the debris does should flow toward a narrative. The clone thing could've explained how her father's death was faked but then they dismissed it with one sentence. The episode where they brought back a previous debris ability to deal with the current crisis would've been more interesting had we seen that debris before.

I think this show is dead after 13 episodes.

 

Anyone still watching this show? This week's episode was actually good and the first half of a two-parter. However, if any of it actually ties into the main narrative, who knows? Instead of an X-Files monster of the week, this show is the alien debris piece of the week. The mystery isn't what these pieces do, it's why they do them.

 

And/or how they do them. I just lost interest. I didn't really like many of the characters and the plot just seemed to meander from debris chunk to debris chunk, with a lot of crying along the way. I had them recorded but I just can't be bothered to watch them. I'm out.

 

Just caught up with Manifest.... from what you guys are saying... Debris clearly dies NOT have the character/relationship strengths manifest has

 

For the most part, the characters on Debris are very much "on the job." You get under the skin of a couple characters, but it's not particularly interesting for one of them. Manifest does a better job giving warmth and emotion to the majority of their main characters, but there are so many one-dimensional stock characters (like the Eureka scientist who seems to exist only to disagree with Ben, and the lead meth head with his cartoon villainy). Debris has a better sense of where it wants to go, but that's not saying much since there's a lot lacking there too. In my opinion, Debris is focusing on the wrong aspect of their mystery.

 

Having watched last night's episode ("Asalah") and - it really felt like a filler episode; the only purpose seemed to be give (more?) background on Beneventi. It was so filler that I don't really have anything to say about it.

 

People were making a big deal about a Fringe appearance last night, but it wasn't a Fringe crossover, it was just an actor from Fringe.

 

Entertainment Weekly has an interview with show creator J.H. Wyman about the finale and what it means for potential future seasons (although, don't read it until you've seen the season finale).

 

Is anyone even watching it? I don't think in this case it is spoilers...and will this make it to 2nd season, let alone his planned finale?

 

I gave up after the first couple of episodes. Did they ever establish if the general public knows about what's happening which was unclear in the ones I saw, and more importantly did they ever explain why random bits of debris would be causing all these different effects (an idea that made zero sense to me)?

 

I never started watching it at all but follow this thread a bit. So I read that article and all I can say is:

It looks like the last line of the first season will be the last line of the series.

 

The best way I can describe it is... take 11 standalone X-Files episodes that have nothing to do with each other, then put an episode at the beginning and an episode at the end that states everything is connected and leading to something bigger.

That's a bit of hyperbole since there is connective tissue with Debris, but you get the general idea. There's a lot of "part of this episode is interesting but who cares" going on.
