Back to the '80s. Just a different '80s than what most people think of. ;)

So, I was on a short trip on Monday and happened to stop at a convenience store that had these. Honestly, I think the reason I never noticed them before was that they were in cans, as I usually prefer getting bottles. But on mention of these, I picked up the Blueberry/Acai. Not bad! I like the concept of making more variety available in diet drinks, as I feel the options are sometimes somewhat limited. Although I noticed it was Aspartame, so it probably wouldn't be a regular buy. I wish they'd make it with Stevia extract.

So I've officially given up on finding New Coke in my area. However. I do plan to go watch Spider-man: Far From Home in IMAX Monday in Lexington, so hopefully I'll be able to find some up there :D

Yea what was mentioned in the article about the new Coke Classic sounds an awful lot like what Pepsi did with the re-release of Crystal Pepsi. It was good the first time around, it tasted horrible the second time.

It's interesting to hear they ever felt threatened by Pepsi, because if you ask most people now, you'd get a majority of people saying Coke is their favourite, and anyone saying Pepsi is would be made to feel like an outlier. If you ask people now, most people would say they prefer the sharper taste of Coke to the sweeter Pepsi. That makes it harder for me to believe that they made the new formula sweeter for that reason, but maybe things were different in the 80's.

As a youth I used to claim to prefer Pepsi, just to be contrarian.

I think it's primarily a North American thing. See, it all started because the price of sugar was on the rise. The entire industry as a result in NA had to shift to using some alternative and settled on using high-fructose corn syrup, although there were a few stragglers like Dublin Dr Pepper who continued to bottle using cane sugar.

Now here's the thing. In general, that would have had to change the taste everywhere, including Pepsi (even sweeter?). So, in changing the formula of Coke, I think it was as much finding a new formula that worked using high-fructose corn syrup. I personally don't think taste tests tell the whole truth. I feel that often because someone is put on the spot will say something. I've often seen people reverse their decisions after a cooling off period has occurred. The ironic thing is that had they just silently changed it, I think New Coke would have been just fine with everyone. But they had a huge campaign behind it including newly designs cans, and of course when you do that, people will take notice and take offense at the change. And the fact is, they never could get the old formula back anyway due to the change in ingredients and only a closest facsimile.

To me, Coke has to be in the small glass bottles, common in Europe etc but rare in the UK
It's mostly all plastic bottles and cans

Probably rare everywhere and where it is available you pay a price premium. Not sure it's really worth it to pay twice as much for 4 small bottles as I do for a 6 pack of 710ml/24oz.

It's not that rare. I've seen plenty of those small glass bottles, but yeah, you sure do pay a premium.

well compared to the amount of the regular stuff they're rare :)

speaking of rare, coke lime seems to have disappeared again (or freshco are getting slack) at least they've still got the coke orange :)

only catch is that it's the 500ml bottles and you're paying a premium for them.

I must have drank New Coke, only due to to the fact it was discontinued in 1992 and I have been in American since 1990. I also recall New Coke and Coca Cola Classic branding, but shoot me if you want, don't remember Coke II. Probably because I haven't really been drinking any sodas since about 1992 anyway (well until I recently moved to Atlanta, and you HAVE to drink Coke here, it's city law :D)

New Coke was brought back as Coke II in 1990, then discontinued in 2002

Why do raspberry flavored things always have the blues?
