Absolutely hysterical episode. Better than the mid - season finale. I think this may have been the first episode of the season that had every single main character in the series (and then some).

Good seeing White Josh again. It's been a while. His getting a kick out the weird awkwardness between Josh, Greg, and Nathaniel, was FUNNY.

When Audra showed up, I thought it would be nice to see a reprise of Jap Battle. What we got was even better. And didn't Audra do a little shout out to the season 2 opening theme? I was thinking/hoping they'd revisit "Lets Generalize About Men", (which is one of my fav songs/performances in the series) because of Audra's boyfriend, and Vegas just seemed like a good place for it. But I enjoyed Audra (the actor is a pretty decent rapper) and Rebecca's reconciliation song so much I didn't miss it.

Only two episodes to wrap up the series because the last one will be a live concert. This is going to be gut wrenching because I have loved this unique little show so much.

I keep wondering if the concert will link into the finale somehow? We've seen Rebecca getting her fingers wet in musical theatre, and whilst she really couldn't sing, she came alive when she heard her song changes being sung (and enjoyed) by others.

Maybe she teams up with someone to write music? ;)

The concert isn’t the final episode. It airs right after the finale, with the cast performing a bunch of songs from the show.

I agree I think that's all it will be, but it's just the faintest whiff of a thought I had. :D

But I still think this is a great idea and I wonder if Rachel gave it any thought. It reminds me a little bit of the end of the "Smash" series finale.

The show's two female leads, Katherine McPhee and Megan Hilty, who had been at each other's throats almost the entire series, did one last number which was a farewell to the audience because they knew the show had been cancelled. It was really a nice little surprise. .

Rebecca "writing" a show in the penultimate episode (along with wrapping up strorylines) and then we see the show she wrote presented in the series finale as a 'concert".

    Would have been great.

Looking a little closer at the final episodes, the concert special is actually episode 18 of 18, and thus is technically the finale - at least according to Wikipedia.

    Curiouser and curiouser... ;)

The end of that last episode was beautiful. Very understated, and very Greg, even though his date turned out to be a non-date.

I was a little wary about the whole setup of this episode and the three dates, but it was all so very, very funny I was pretty much instantly onboard. Love's Not A Game was another brilliant song (and minor chord reprise) in the CEG pantheon.

I loved how passionate each of Rebecca's close friends were about each of their preferred partners. Paula talking about Josh?

And Weird Al! Oh I'm going to miss this show.

The betting was so funny, as was Rebecca’s stalking of Dr. Akopian.

I’m pretty sure this was White Josh’s first song.

I loved Nathaniel and Josh’s bonding over wanting Greg dead.

Next week is the finale followed by the live concert. I’m not ready to say goodbye to this beautiful little show yet. :(

Well that’s it. No more. :wah:

There were things I liked about the finale and things I didn’t.

Liked: Nathaniel working at a zoo because of “I Go To The Zoo.” Rebecca and Paula’s reprise of “West Covina” from the pilot. Valencia finally getting engaged! Rebecca’s medley of songs complete with the outfits (that she wasn’t wearing.)

Disliked: The time jump. Rebecca telling Paula about her fantasizing musical numbers. It seemed really strange. I’m really happy she chose to be single but the format of the finale was really weird to me. I also wanted one final big number with everyone.

However the concert was wonderful! My favourite was Pete Gardner singing “Gettin’ Bi.” I only wish the show had been longer.

Farewell Crazy Ex-Girlfriend! You are no longer broken inside. ;)

Yeah I agree that concert was so much fun but I only would have been happy with a 4 hour marathon of all the songs.

Loved the finale. Time jump confused me slightly too but glad she ended up writing songs about herself, like I sort of had an inkling about. Her choosing to be by herself whilst she followed her dream was perfect.

That would have been the expected end. But subverting tropes is one of the Hallmarks of the show. Also any song they wrote would never live up to expectations. They have also been running out of gas with regards to song writing over the last season. I did think the last episode was rather light on singing given it was the finale of a musical.

It's hard narrowing it to 10, so many songs are in my rotation.

    In no particular order:

    Hey West Covina
    Let's Generalize About Men
    The Math of Love Triangles
    I'm So Good at Yoga
    You Stupid Bitch
    We Tapped That Ass
Without Love You Can Save The World
    Where's Rebecca Bunch
    Who's The New Guy
    The Darkness

Seven of Five, you know they used your idea about Rebecca writing a musical,. I thought that was fitting considering how important musical theater has been in Rachel's life. Yeah, the time jump confused me a bit as well. It took me a minute to figure out what the gathering was all about.

But I'm glad they decided to not make the finale about "Rebecca's choice". That was kind of a red herring. It wasn't the most scintillating series finale, but it sure didn't leave a bad taste in my mouth. Perhaps the concert should be thought of as the real finale, considering how important the songs have been for the show. I also liked that they wrapped all the main characters' story lines and everyone got a happy ending.

Loved the concert. I just wish it could have been longer in order to give us more songs and maybe a guest (Patty Lupone, maybe) .

Gonna miss this show so much. I don't think there has ever been anything exactly like it on TV before. But imagine how hard it must have been to produce a show that needed a regular script, plus original songs, original choreo. Even for only 13 episodes per season, that had to be murder.

The show set new standards to dealing with themes like mental illness, relationships, and perhaps, women's issues. All of the main characters got some of the best development. Crazy Ex also set standards for diversity in casting that will be hard for future shows to beat, although the CW, to it's credit, is trying.

Glad the show is on Netflix. Looking forward to a series re-watch.

The past two days I’ve been continuously singing all my favourite songs. I don’t think it’s sunk in that it’s over. I’m also planning on doing a rewatch at some point. I look forward to seeing what Rachel Bloom does next!

I'll rewatch again at some point too. The series definitely flows together quite nicely.

gblews I don't think they borrowed my whole theory. At the end of the episode as Rebecca was about to sing, I was half expecting her to belt out West Covina. Ending it there, however, did make me smile. I was still thinking the concert was going to play into the story somehow but I was obviously over-analysing it. That's from what watching too much Twin Peaks, Lost and BSG over the years.

In an interview I read about the finale, Rachel Bloom said she ended it there because, rather than having Rebecca sing a known song, it was going to be her own sound, and so left it to our imagination.

I'm also glad Rebecca'a choice between men didn't become the main part of the final story as well. At one point going into season three, I was still a staunch fan of Greg (and in denial he'd left!), but after everything she went through here, and then again in season four, I was just hoping she'd be happy.

The finale was about everyone being happy ultimately - Valencia proposing was so sweet! Heather's hot tub had me howling with laughter. Paula being a badass at her new firm and staunchly setting up pro bono work. Daryl and his girlfriend (she was lovely, the only thing is she didn't make enough of an impression on me to remember her name). We even had Akopian back as the dreamghost!.

I think it did it's job as an epilogue, whilst the concert celebrated the music of the show.

I thought I should mention that there is a documentary called “Oh My God I Think It’s Over”. It’s behind the scenes stuff of making the finale. Really heartwarming. Available on the CW website.

^ I will definitely check this out.

Here's my top 5 Craxy Ex songs and another 5 in no particular order.

1 West Covina - When I first heard this song in the show I knew I'd likely be a big fan.
    2. Jap Battle (explicit) - Made me wish Audra was regular cast.
    3. Lets Generalize About Men - song gets out all of their "feelings" about men while acknowledging their bias.
    4. Let's Have Intercourse - Nathaniel was such a dick, until he wasn't.
    5. What a Rush to Be Bride - the lyrics are a simple and typical conversation between bride and bridesmaid, but set against a thrash metal arrangement.

Love Kernals - beautiful melody showcasing Rebecca's willingness to accept ANYTHING as a sign of Josh's true feelings.
Heavy Boobs - "sacks of yellow fat' Yikes.
Santa Ana Winds - I don't think anyone has ever written a song about the Santa Ana winds before this one.
(Tell Me I'm Okay) Patrick - beautiful melody
We'll Never Have Problems Again - as psychotically optimistic as Rebecca was. Highlight of the video was Heather's dance.
Don't Be a Lawyer - perfect Bobby Brown song
I'm a Good Person - "Mother Theresa Luther King"

I don’t want to spoil it but the last few minutes of the documentary is the best thing ever!
