We may need the nuclear winter to prevent sea level rise.

Funny thing-earth in Star Trek went through a nuclear war in the 2040s-2050s.

This is really an interesting idea to think about. I think it will still be there with several, probably dozens of new series and movies. The potential for that is endless and something that has lasted so long, can easily make it another 50 years.

Tapped out, largely ignored and nearly forgotten.

Still alive if they keep refreshing it to stay relevant to the times. Not paying much heed to what the old long-time fans expect.

And solve the viewership and bottom line issues as they crop up, well before it becomes too late.

It would be the 49th season of Discovery, and 47th season of Picard (though the actor and character are dead).

The Picard Show will just be a live stream of an open coffin.

We could be living Star Trek in 2066. Everyone will have holodecks, replicators and teleportation will be real.

At the rate we're going with new Star Trek series, there will be nothing but Star Trek on TV.

No, because so far just a couple of million people are watching them.

If the same couple of million people subscribe to All Access to see Picard during the hiatuses in STD, that achieves CBS's purpose.

At this rate, there will be no TV shows on in 2066 that are not updated versions of shows currently on TV now.

So there will be Trek on TV and our grandchildren will be debating whether the Golden Age was in the 60s, the 90s, or the 10s.

At this rate also, Star Trek will be about evil aliens come to destroy the superior humans and undermine the authority of the all knowing Earth government. And critics will argue this was secretly what Star Trek was always about.

I thought it was more several hundred thousand, if it was a couple of million CBS would be letting the whole world know what the numbers were.

It'll be even more generic sci-fi action then at this course.

I hope it rediscovers itself before then though.

Star Trek will become a part of the collective New Mythology of humanity alongside heroes like Superman and Batman and stuff like Star Wars.

I'd like to think we're better than that.
