Well, my abandonment of the show didn't last long. I gave in and watched the "film noir" episode, and it had enough fun moments and resolved enough of the problematical plot threads that I think I'm willing to keep going at least a little longer. Bonus points for having Josie sing Stephen Sondheim's "Sooner or Later" from Dick Tracy, though they totally mangled it in the editing, and it says something about generational literacy that their chosen song for an episode homaging 1940s film noir was written for a 1990 movie homaging 1940s film noir.

    Tonight's episode:

Archie the pugilist. I don't see any chemistry between him and Josie.

Gladys Jones wants a piece of the action.

The Farm. Was it any surprise one of the former members mentioned "ascension"?

The Farm plot is really boring. I'm tired of Hiram's scheming. I'm finding nearly everybody on this show to be annoying right now except for Josie. The show is just getting mired in being dark. Lighten up.

Yeah. I decided to give up watching three episodes ago, then gave in and tried the next two episodes and decided "Okay, maybe I'll stick around after all," but throughout this one I was just uninterested and repeatedly tempted to turn it off. It's no longer a show about school and music and teen activities coexisting with the darker crime-drama stuff; everything here was organized crime and teen gangs and murder cults and evil parents.

The one bit that was ridiculous enough to be amusing was the decision to accompany Archie's bout of gladitorial blood sports with Josie singing the theme song from Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. Which would otherwise be a really odd choice for a retro nightclub's chanteuse.

May he rest in peace. I don't think they'll replace him with a different actor. But I'm curious as to how the show will deal with his sudden departure.

Tonight's episode pays tribute to Luke Perry.

Edit: Well, that wasn't much of a tribute.

It appears Kevin is the latest recruit by the Farm, much to Betty's dismay. Moreover, Alice decides to sell the Cooper home, which makes her daughter all fired up. :D

Veronica tries to get her debt reduced by Hiram and Gladys, but when they walk all her (bar), she's had enough of them.

Archie meets an orphan boy whom he tries to protect from the Gargoyles, but the lad turns out to be the vicious and disturbed younger brother of the deceased Joaquin De Santos.

It was all they would've had time to add on such short notice. But apparently they intend to dedicate the entire series from now on to Perry.

The musical episode didn't pique my interest. As soon as Kevin started singing, I turned off the TV.

Jason Blossom is the Gargoyle King? Ethel told Jughead who the GK was and Jughead dug up Jason's grave and the casket is completely empty.

Hiram finally goes down. Until he wiggles out of the charges next season.

Edgar Neverever is harvesting kidneys and other organs from his followers. So it's all a scam to make megabucks off illegal organ harvesting?

I'm really not sure that I'll be watching next season. The show is just a mess. I wish they'd go back to the style of the first season.

Jason Blossom is dead and not the Gargoyle King...his body isn't in his coffin because Cheryl has his body in a basement. The Gargoyle King turned out to be Chick. The Black Hood didn't kill him but he got Chick to become his apprentice.. Hal and Penelope Blossom were working together to punish Riverdale with the Black Hood killings in season 2 and the Gargoyle King stuff this season. Penelope was behind the Gargoyle King in high school also. Near the end of the episode she murders Hal Cooper and leaves town.

Turns out Alice Cooper never really joined The Farm cult. She was working undercover for the FBI the whole time to get evidence on Edgar Evernever. And the FBI agent she was working with is her son Charles. Alice is a pretty good actress because it sure looked like she was a brainwashed cult member. I wonder if this was planned from the start or did they just make it up later for the finale.

After Archie, Veronica, Betty and Jughead pledge to have a nice senior year without murders or death cults there's a flash forward to Spring Break during senior year. Archie, Veronica and Betty are in their underwear and covered in blood. They burn their clothes and swear to never to speak of what happened that night. They also vow to part ways after graduation and never see each other again so they can get away with this. whatever this is. jughead is no where to be seen. All we see is Archie throw Jughead's hat into the fire with their clothes.

The show is just getting darker and darker. And less fun and more dumb. I think this show worked better when it was just 13 episodes. 22 episodes is too much and it runs in circles in the middle of the season. I probably won't be back for season 4.

Yeah, who would've guessed that imposter Chick was still alive (spared by Hal) and was the Gargoyle King? They sure made it look like Hiram was linked to the Gargoyles in several episodes this season. In a way, he was, but he wasn't the mastermind, but Aunt Penelope Blossom. I'm glad this Gargoyle King arc is done and so is the Farm. And Betty and Jug's half brother is alive too!
