An all-new novel based upon the explosive Star Trek TV series!

No one in the history of histories has lost more than Philippa Georgiou, ruler of the Terran Empire. Forced to take refuge in the Federation’s universe, she bides her time until Section 31, a rogue spy force within Starfleet, offers her a chance to work as their agent. She has no intention of serving under anyone else, of course; her only interest is escape.

But when a young Trill, Emony Dax, discovers a powerful interstellar menace, Georgiou recognizes it as a superweapon that escaped her grasp in her own universe. Escorted by a team sent by an untrusting Federation to watch over her, the emperor journeys to a region forbidden to travelers. But will what she finds there end the threat—or give “Agent Georgiou” the means to create her old empire anew?

People are seeing this one in stores now, so time for our usual review thread! The ebook version will be released on July 14.

Please note that JJMiller has indicated that he doesn't participate in review threads, so if you have any questions for the author, you will need to post them in another thread. ( @trampledamage , do you prefer we use the prerelease thread for this, or start a new spoiler thread?)

(And yes, I wanted to make the top option in the poll "Out(die)standing", but I didn't want to mess up the review aggregator if it ever gets fixed! )

Huh. I just noticed the Terran Empire logo as seen in Disco includes an upside down arrowhead.

Which doesn’t make sense as the ISS NX-01 featured the sword through Earth logo and then the ISS NCC-1701 also featured the same logo.

It makes as much sense as the Enterprise design changing, or the makeup design for Andorians and Tellarites changing from show to show, or the appearance of Vulcan from space changing from production to production, or the warp effect changing, or Saavik's or Cochrane's or Pike's or Spock's face changing. It makes sense because this is an artistic interpretation of an imaginary universe rather than a documentary to be taken literally. Get a dozen artists to depict the same subject and they'll depict it a dozen different ways.

Which still doesn’t make sense when it’s been established in canon that the Mirror Universe had been using the sword for over 100 years. That would be like depicting the. US flag as looking like France’s flag, but with the 48 stars on it between 1950 and 59.

Yes I did. Really Discovery is like a square piece trying to fit into a round hole.

It makes as much sense as having three division colors for 110+ years, then seven for a decade, then a different seven-ish for about 80 years, then back to three (but a different three) again.

Just bought the book, reading it now

Have you watched Star Trek before? This kind of inconsistency has been common since TOS.

Like I said, it's all an artistic creation, so different artists have the freedom to redesign the visuals. They're just distinct creative interpretations of a common underlying idea, like all the different Klingon or Andorian makeups or all the different warp-drive effects.

So commenting on the book, just started Chapter 8 but some interesting things.

Sean Finnegan's mirror counter part became a servant of Georgiou's. She found him nearly dead at the Academy. In Shards and Shadows it was said Mirror Kirk killed him, but I guess it could be assumed Kirk thought he was good as dead, not expecting someone to rescue him. Georgiou remembers him still smiling even has he laid there dying, which lines up with the description of his death in 'Shards and Shadows'.

His Prime counter part is in jail, not sure if that contradicts anything from other Prime novels. It's possible it could be explained before the book ends.

Ohh a reference to Mirror Georgiou's cousin from the Mirror DSC Comics.

Very interesting. I'm currently in the process of moving, so I haven't yet had a chance to even read this book yet (my copy arrived a few days ago), but are there other consistencies (or inconsistencies) with, say, David Mack's The Sorrows of Empire (and/or other Litverse Mirror Universe-tales) that you've noticed so far?

The story is fairly removed from the greater galaxy, so I haven't seen any inconcistancies.

I finished the book last night, it was real good.

Did not expect McCoy to be mentioned until Dax appeared. Given the Farragut at Tycho IV,I expected Kirk to be mentioned.
