Well since this thread, much like it's subject matter, refuses to die: :p

The first trailer for Universal's answer to the Marvel universe. Beginning a series that will likely see origin stories for the other monsters and characters, with Van Helsing and The Mummy planned for 2016/17 making a "combined setting" for them all.

Pretty hyped not only for the film itself but for the potential saga they're about to create for the 80th anniversary of their monster mash team.

This is separate from that. The Mummy is going to be the "Iron Man" of the new Universal Monster universe.

Dracula might be fun, the trailer looks good for an fx extravaganza. Rebooting Universal monsters I'd like to see 'The Creature From the Black Lagoon' get a good treatment.

Oh, well even as a standalone it's been a long while since the 1992 version, and essentially none of them have ever focused exclusively on his days in 15th century Romania.

It'll be an interesting change, just wondering if I should go all out and see it in 3D, seeing how far between major adaptations it is.

I'm looking forward to The Mummy 2016 version, but I'm one of the few people who really liked Van Helsing 2004.

I love the place he goes in the mountains. Very reminiscent of the Scholomance, the college where the Devil teaches wizards. Stoker says Dracula studied there and is where he gained all those powers (turning into animals, controlling animals and the weather and such). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scholomance

There seem to be a ton of little references throughout the trailer alone to Romanian/Turkish history and hints at Dracula's past. On the one hand it's a shame it took 150+ movies to get to this point but on the other, looking at the effects, they needed to wait for the right oppertunity.

Chunks of the film where filmed here in Northern Ireland, a few of our valleys were used for the location shots much like Game of Thrones.

But the old Vampire in the trailer is:

    Caligula.
So they imply other leaders of nations have turned to dark powers to win the day before Tepes, that he is the latest to join them.

If this film is the first of the Universal reboot universe, the society could be part of, or actually, the big bad of the series.

I did see a reference on one of the sci-fi fantasy sites I frequent to this possibly starting the Universal Monsters universe, so I guess I might have been wrong on that count. My apologies.

Universal themselves are being tight-lipped on the subject, so it's understandable. Actually I'm wondering if they're developing this one so that it could go either way depending on the critical reception, making the Mummy and Van Helsing the much more marketed ones.

Also the CGI being so greatly different in the UK trailer suggest the US one was made quite a while ago, from an earlier stage of pre-production, even with them released only 4-5 weeks apart.

I'm just glad for another big screen Dracula, then again they do only happen at significant intervals. 31, 58, 74/9, 92 etc so I don't mind if it isn't picked up again.

On an unrelated note, I bought Hotel Transylvania the other day and haven't gotten around to watching it yet, should really take care of that soon.

And I'm starting season 5 of Young Dracula (BBC series) which is surprisingly good, but changes tone drastically as it goes.

They actually just added Young Dracula to Amazon Prime's free streaming video service.
I'm really hoping they eventually add ITV's Demons, which featured Mina Harker (nee Murray) as a supporting character, to it or Netflix. It's intrigued me for a while, but I've never gotten a chance to watch it.

This one is a book series but it has both vampires and witches in it (along with daemons). It's the All Souls series by Deborah Harkness. Just in the middle of reading the last book in the series right now and it's really good.

Just got back from seeing Dracula Untold and it is a damn good movie.

A lot more story than the trailers suggested, both more and less historically accurate as well. Even several likeable enough secondary characters.

The vampires in this series are as complicated as the person they were in life for the most part, but their vampire half is definitely a monster, the creature effects are very subtle and well done.

A good cast all round, good performances from all of them, even the boy lol.

The action sequences don't dominate the movie but are epic enough when they do happen, some good one liners, a lot of "feels" and great moments.

    And last and rather importantly...
The last scene is a setup for the larger Universal Combined-monster Universe. It's ambigious enough but they're hinting at something bigger and more action packed, Dance's character plays a bigger role in the scheme of things apparently.

I haven't seen DRACULA UNTOLD yet, but at least two friends have seen it and recommended it to me.

I can't wait for the bluray, to see if there's an extended edition.

I was hoping more people had seen it, it's a great movie, even found out the other day that *all* of the film was shot here, not just parts of it.

Tollymore is literally a short car ride from here. I thought some of the country side seemed a little too familiar even with the CGI backgrounds.

But yes I'd definitely recommend it, and pay attention to the little details, as quite a lot of what happens in any scene has importance later on, lots of continuity and setting up throughout.

Nobody stayed for the credits, or I mean we all left during them but since the setup occurs before the credits roll, I doubt there was anything more to show.

And the studio has released a "cartoon-ised" trailer:

    Pretty awesome editing.
