    My favorites:

"Do you go to 'Star Track' conventions?"

As if that alone qualified me as a real fan...

"Oh, so you're a 'Star Track' nerd."

Yeah, I guess you could say that I'm a 'nerd'...as long as you consider that my riding a sportbike, climbing mountains, playing drums, teaching martial arts and rebuilding old cars are also nerdy endeavors. Stop the pigeon-holing and clichés, people!

My all-time favorite was in response to my stating that I was a Star Trek fan:

"Oh, well then...May the Force be with you!"

    *Sigh*

I hate it when women find out I'm a Trekker and therefore assume I'm some kind of rutting, sexually devastating, pleasure ninja

    It's bloody tiresome

I dunno ... I'm sure anyone who serves as the science officer is required to have at least one doctorate.

The phrase "true fan" annoys me.

...assuming that Vulcans would be interested in conferring doctoral degrees.

Perhaps he could have received one on-line through the University of Phoenix.

Also the phrase, "REAL Star Trek", which in the 90's meant "not Next Gen", in the noughties meant "not Enterprise" and now means "everything but the reboot". If you keep changing what it means, it's meaningless.

No in that sense not as much it's the other things I gave examples of in my latter post that annoy me. People saying things deliberately wrong to be a "smart ass"

I got one, though this isn't strictly Trek-related: watching something purely with the intent to tear it down and nothing else. I'm not saying watching Star Trek should be criticism-free, but don't try to predict doom and gloom when the show/movie hasn't even started filming yet. Make your critiques *after* watching it, or at least after there's a better grasp of what's going to come out. Or y'know, don't watch it if you expect it to be so bad. Our heartrates -- yours and mine -- are too precious for boiling blood pressure.

This was the same for TNG, for DS9, for ENT, and for the reboot.

It doesn't make me mad anymore, since I no longer speak to either one of them, but it used to annoy me when my dad and brother both repeatedly called me stupid and an idiot for liking Star Trek.

This despite the fact they both admitted to watching (and liking) TOS and TNG.

KAHN instead of Khan. It's Khan Singh, not the architect Louis Kahn. People see the name written somewhere, even the name of TWOK contains it...and yet there exists someone who mispells it. And I do not buy the excuses about automatic correction on some devices. I never do.

Okay, I admit it: this drive me nuts, too, because it is so ubiquitous.

As an occasional typo, fine, but you see this way too often for it just to be a random typo. Sometimes it seems like half the world genuinely think it's spelled "Kahn."

I hate when somebody mixes Star Trek and Star Wars.

"Oh you like Star Trek? Luke Skywalker was the man...yeah!!"

    Ugh

I feel the same way when someone says "Luke I am your father". NO DAMN IT!!!! The line was "NO..... I am your father". I even have a f'n Hallmark ornament of Vader reaching towards Luke and the recording when you press the button is "Luke. I am your father." An offical lucasfilm product and even they got it wrong.

I understand your frustration at people who get the beam me up line wrong. And any real ST fan should know better. But Kirk said variations of that line so often people just lose track. In Empire it was one damn line and a single word in it and they F it up.

Oh as far as ST. The fans who are so rabid that if you make a negative comment about anything and anyone in it they go bonkers and basically where do you get off having an opinion a hole.

And the fans that insist on making ST and SW so simple as SW is popcorn film with no depth, when in fact the OT had many complex themes to them (I hear rumors of "prequels" being made but, at least in my world, I haven't seen it happen yet). ST is for the real intellectuals. They both have strong messages otherwise they wouldn't be so popular. You don't see The Fast and the Furious conventions all the time, because the movies are muscle bound fluff that people see to kill two hours. Hardly anyone walks away from one going "My god that film really challenged my thinking with it's themes"

I can relate. Whenever people tell me they went golfing, I always ask "Did you win?" Apparently nobody wins at golf.

Unless you delve into abstracts such as 'good exercise' and 'the smell of the fresh, clean air,' not really. It's an extremely frustrating sport and I want to beat the guy who invented it over the head with my 9-iron.
