Last night (Wednesday, February 5), CBS had a retrospective of some of the past 39 seasons and a preview of Season 40.

Survivor: Winners at War starts Wednesday, February 12 (9 pm in the Mountain time zone; as always, check your own time zone's listings).

This season features 20 of the past winners (including Sandra, who won twice). Boston Rob is also one of the contestants, and Sandra said that she's upset that while they were filming Island of the Idols last season, he didn't mention to her that he would be part of Season 40. So that's a strike against him, as far as she's concerned.

I'm not cheering either of them on. I've got my two or three favorites.

    Here is the cast list.

I missed 3 or 4 seasons, so there are a few people in this list I don't recognize (and some I forgot the moment their season was over).

    Anyhow, predictions? Likes? Dislikes?

Let's get this season going! :)

I have no idea who's going to win. Everybody is good at the game, everyone's a target. There's a few people like Rob and Parvati who get the most credit and the rest are equally targets.

I don't have a high opinion of the games of Ethan, Nathalie, Amber (But Amber could glide in if Rob is eliminated early). Sarah, Parvati, Ben are given so much credit they are obvious targets. The people I think are great players but are not given the most credit are people like Kim, Denise, Danni, Wendell, Sophie. If I had to pick one person I might go with Sophie. But there's like ten people I think have around equal chance.

I think this season the things that usually work against women work in their favorite. Not getting credit for good moves in the final vote will make them get less credit for previous good moves, and make them less targeted.

This was a really fun premiere.

    Some thoughts:
    1) I think Natalie choosing Sandra as the person she wanted to execute a trade with and Ben going out of his way to save Adam has something to do with the pre-game segregation of the men and the women
    2) Amber was targeted based solely on a false belief of Sandra's that Rob lied to her about coming back to play while they were living together on the Island of the Idols even though pre-game interview stuff has revealed that the "No" he'd given the producers during the filming of IotI didn't turn into a "Yes" until after he was back home for the 2 week period between the end of IotI filming and the start of WaW filming
    3) Unless Rob becomes a target going forward, I have a feeling that he's going to be playing similarly to the way Natalie did on San Juan Del Sur where Amber being voted out just serves as massive fuel for him to dominate everything
    4) Sophie had the line of the night with her whole "Nerd Shield" quip, and she's seriously flirting with becoming my singular "ride or die" player this season even though I love pretty much everybody who's playing the game

Sophie was my pre-season pick to win and I’m not doubting that choice so far.

I didn’t get the impression Sandra was the only reason, I thought it was because of her connection to Rob. And because everyone else implicated in the Rob connection was more scrappy and got out of it.

I also like Yul’s game so far. I like how Rob and Parvati are like “WTF, why is nobody targeting us?!”

Personally, I think the other contestants were insane to keep Parvati and Boston Rob around. Those two could manipulate anybody if given enough time to work their magic.

I'd hoped that Natalie would last longer. :(

Not surprised they decided to get rid of Amber. That's one less ally for Rob, assuming he makes it to the merge.

I think Amber was a liability for Rob at this stage of the game. This development takes a bit of the heat off him.

My impression this week, Ethan is adapting decently to the new style of the game, Danni is not. I’m surprised how bad she’s playing.

The fact that Denise suggested Parvati to give her half idol makes me think she didn’t watch the other seasons. Might as well give it to Russell. Ben seems to have learned a lot from his first season but has a hard time escaping the threat label. Jeremy also seems to have a good social game.

They are just heading to TC now so don’t know who got voted out yet.

Well, that wasn't a surprise. And considering that I don't even remember this player, I'm not upset at all.

I don’t know how long you’ve been watching Survivor, but she was the sports commenter who called out Gary for being an NFL player.

She was great on that season but has been terrible this season.

The one I don’t remember is Michelle.

I don't remember who Gary was.

I started watching the show right from Season 1, episode 1. But along the way I missed a few, due to either not having cable TV or not having a working TV, period. And some of these people really aren't that interesting anyway. Some years, if you'd asked me ten minutes later who won, I'd have blanked on it.

Some others are unforgettable, though. I'm disappointed that Kim doesn't have everyone all neatly organized and sewn up yet. The way she played everyone in her season was phenomenal. If memory serves, she's the only one who successfully made an all-women alliance work to the end.

Danni was the winner the year Stephenie came in second. You don’t remember Amy telling Gary “If you’re really an NFL player I’m gonna beat you down!” The first season with a hidden idol, only that idol had to be played before voting.

Kim was great her season but also benefited from being one of the only players who was neither a moron nor an apparent psychopath.

What a brilliant tribal. The silent majority showing the people who think they are running the game that they are not

I'm glad to see Natalie actively fighting for her chance to get back in the game. The others have given up.

I'm starting to think that Natalie not only gets back into the game, she might be joining Sandra as a 2-time winner, and I'm extremely torn.

The Ethan vote-off confused me because it came totally out of nowhere.

I'm getting kind of tired of Sele losing, but am not sure they are strong enough to beat Dakal at anything currently, which is frustrating.

Adam was right that the power trio of Rob Pavarti and Ethan needed to be broken up. But the rest of them didn't want to follow Adam because he betrayed them by running to Rob with the plan. They showed both Rob and Adam that they were definitely not in charge while still breaking up the trio.

I don’t know why Rob thought the social lockdown would work out for him. I’m impressed by Sophie and Sarah having courage not to use their advantages there.

What’s the list of idols now? Sandra, Kim and Sophie? Anyone I’m forgetting?
