I haven't been here for sometime. I hate sniper fire and that was what I was feeling. Maybe now I will visit more often. After reading all teh posts on this thread I am getting a headache. If I was a MOD I probably would commit Seppaku.
Hi zankoku, nice to see you around here again. Trekbbs is very active and hard for me to keep up with at times. There is a wide variety of threads to get involved in. The mods. here have more patience than I will ever have.
I understand where T'Bonz is coming from Space Seed is the TOS episode I like the least. I have never really liked the episodes that have super beings like Trelane or Q in them. Space Seed is worse than the others because it also has a member of Kirk's crew betraying all she believes in for a pretty face.
^ Remember that the next time I pick apart a show. (But in all fairness, I do that to most shows on television, Trek or not. Can you imagine what I have to say about commercials?) --- To whomever said I had a girlhood crush on Khan, be ye daft? I had a crush on Spock when I was young, like 100000000000000 other young girls at the time.
I'd suggest that the above missive will not have any force, but the enforcement by the mods (in my opinion flighty at best) will determine its usefulness. Frankly, I've never understood the time investment of the shippers. It's just a TV show.
^ IMO like the techie lovers, canon sticklers, alien species fans, character lovers, 'shippers have found an aspect of Trek that they like to talk about. That doesn't mean that it is the only aspect 'shipper fan like to talk about though. Just like some canon sticklers or techie lovers can have debates about stuff that sometimes get out of hand, 'shippers do to. 'Shipping has been positive for me. I started writing this year, and am expressing my creative side through fan art. I also talk to friends on and off boards about more than just 'shipping. I've also branched out from 'shipper art and gotten back into nature photography.
yes, some of us "shippers" are longtime Trek fans and care MUCH MORE about the show than their 'ship. btw, I am also a "continuity pornographer".
I'm afraid I don't really understand why squabbling 'shippers cause such a panic and a perceived need to do something, anything -- or possibly several contradictory things in quick succession. I mean, it's all just white words on a blue-gray background. Who really cares? Warn 'em when they violate the board rules, ban 'em if they keep doing it, and leave 'em to fend for themselves otherwise. Seems simple enough to me.
I just want to say at the outset that I appreciate all the effort the mods make to keep this forum civil although it seems as if that responsibility should rest with ALL the individual posters. (I too apologize for times when I've lost my cool and added to the general melee') It does indeed seem kind of ridiculous (not to mention superfluous) to have a separate set of rules for shipper/rage threads than those that exist for the rest of the forum. Secondly, I am not a shipper by any stretch and really believe that sexual pairings between the main characters do not need to occur in order to make the show or those characters interesting. (In fact the opposite reaction often seems to follow after two characters consumate a relationship that had previously been implied via delicious sexual tension.) I also feel that our Vulcan lady deserves better than to be a love object for anyone. Having said that, though, I do believe that the relationships between characters (all the characters) and the chemistry and mystery those relationships suggest are golden in this series. Here's my question though: why in hades would anyone willingly venture into a thread devoted to a pairing they wholeheartedly dislike or that promotes a 'ship that is the polar opposite of one they are devoted to? Isn't that kind of masochistic... asking for trouble... an attempt to stir the $#%&? Why not just begin the "ignore" process a step earlier by not reading what the other camp has to say? Woudln't that save a lot of wear and tear on the blood pressure?
Isn't this the age old question about people who watch Enterprise week after week yet continue to bash it and actively try to cancel the series? The only answere I can come up with is because it's there.
