That looks very Star Trek IV. Lovely.

I'm slowly finishing the final touches on the exterior, but I needed to take a break from this project just to recharge. Along the way, I've been working on a couple of TMP ships that use pieces from the Constitution in the design. So thought I'd post what I've been working. If you guys are interested, I'll create a separate thread. Would be cool to have your input on the designs.

The Akira type is more refined and is close to being a final design. I tested a bunch of different shapes and variations for the catamarans and the engineering hull (not pictured here), but this is what looked best I think. Still need to refine the pod and struts. The other ship is a cargo/supply ship for war situations. The idea is for the back part to disconnect from the ship. You could also possibly chain a couple more. Also note the saucer is quite a bit thicker.

No updates on the Constitution as most of what I've been doing is correcting small errors and other adjustments. I'll post some new images soon though.

Thanks for this. How about a wider saucer--same thickness as the refit.

Do you mean just larger radius or an oval shape? I don't think the oval shape goes with TMP designs.

Here's another side project, but this one ties into the Constitution:

I'd definitely be interested in seeing that cargo hauler design further worked on, I like that design a lot.

I never imagined the Akira arrangement would look so good with TMP parts!

On the other hand, it's essentially an inverted U.S.S. Phobos with less reliance on Miranda components. Your design though, captures a bit of that sweeping grace out of the Refit constitution that the Phobos misses by being more utilitarian.

Yup, I'll post a few more renders soon!

Thanks! It is a tough design to get right. I'm going to start a new thread in a bit to show more of both ships. I did a few changes, but nothing drastic.

Anyway, back to the Constitution. Here are a few renders of details I've been adding. Last pic is the updated colors for the running lights.

It's like Christmas in April with both Viper and Donny making gorgeous renders of the best version of the Enterprise! :luvlove:

I assume you'll gift us with high-resolution versions of your model, Viper? <fingers crossed>

You mean renders? If so, yes. I don't want to just do generic starfield renders though, so I'm thinking of a few compositions right now and seeing what assets I'll need.

No ovals--no no--just a wider diameter please. I agree with you on the ovals.

The additional weapons points on Kelvin would seem to me to be better suited for a post-refit design.

I have often wondered what the future of refit era ships would be--if there were no Stargazer/Excelsior type craft:

Maybe it does look a bit silly:

--but an expanded refit that is even more fluid...that might work. Balson is a tough secondary hull--but it has a pleasing teardrop shape that is a little closer to the FJ Enterprise from the manual.

Each drawing of a connie has its own charm for me.

Exactly. Enterprise is a dragon-swan. All Federation ships (except cargo haulers I guess) need that sweep.

I started a thread to handle my other projects. Let's keep the discussion on the Akira going there. For now, I'd rather keep the size of the saucer. The idea is to be able to use the objects I made for the Constitution. If I increase the diameter I have to re do UV mapping and other things. Not sure it's worth it.

And same thing for any enlarged Constitution variants. The detailing is the worst part, not sure I would do it all again :)

No real updates on this project. In theory I should be redoing a few details on the shuttle bay area, but I'm having trouble doing that without working on the interior. So I think I'll give the project a small pause, do some renders of the ship and start phase 2 which is working on the structural frame and window interiors which will include the entire shuttle bay and cargo area. Stay tuned ;)

Wow, this is some amazing work @Viper!

Those rendered/lit shots could be out of the movies themselves! In fact they're much better resolution!

The modeling and texturing is great, but the lighting...! I don't know what you're doing, but it works!

I wanted to do something to mark finishing the first stage of this project (there's more coming). I have a bunch of ideas for renders, but they all require other assets that I don't have. Anyway, here's the ship in orbit. Fun fact, there's only one light in the scene :p
