captain archer / scott bakula - can't stand his acting

I agree. The ENT showrunners should have picked a lesser known actor. At first, every time Bakula was on screen, he reminded me of Sam Beckett; even later on, every so often when he was on the screen, Sam Beckett came to mind.

Not only that, but I wasn't impressed by his portrayal of Archer. He came across as a relative lightweight, especially when compared to the other ST captains.

The following is totally irrelevant from the topic. I remember there was a ridiculous reference to Bakula during one scene of an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. One character mentioned Scott Bakula's name. Then another character replied in a fanboy crush sort of way "Captain Archer". That was so bizarre and ridiculous that I remembered it.

 

So you think Captain Lorca (DIS) should have spoke with Jason Isaacs' native British accent, instead of the American mid-Atlantic accent the actor employed?

Connor Trinneer showed no difficulty employing a southern accent, in fact he did it quite well.

I don't disagree that racism is bad, but I don't see where there was a racist point being made in this thread.

To expand the point about throwing the term racist around - one should be careful not to accuse someone of racism without extremely good cause. Using the term too lightly diminishes the word.

He always spoke in stage whisper and was angry most of the time. Plus the characters were always taking their shirts off.

 

..Atleast it is NOT as bad as that loser that played the lead on "Agents of Shield" .. That guy has NO TALENT. He is LESS talented than David Duchovney.

 

Who are you talking about? Clark Gregg (aka Phil Coulson)? I mean, he still IS the lead on the show, unless you are talking about someone else. (And by the way, I think he plays his part well...)

 

On that note, I bring up the beaten horse of "Dear Doctor". "Hey, we don't have a prime directive, but if we somehow did have this random thing we just pulled out as a hypothetical, we should totally let a civilization die". A totally artificial drama that was like a Voyager script put on the backburner and awkwardly worked in as an ENT episode. If anything, ENT should have played up the complete opposite. Have them screw up. Have Humans get way, way too involved in stuff with their moral certainties, only to find themselves dragged into the deep end on situations way outside of their ability to deal with, or which get out of hand, and show us why the later eras get as uptight as they do regarding those issues. "We helped this civilization win its war 5 years ago -- now they're space Nazis and have been committing a total racial cleansing of their enemy wherever they still find them. And we have one of those refugees asking for asylum on our ship".

 

I neither look for nor try to avoid him specifically. I didn't mind him as Captain Archer. He has had many roles but is a comfortably working actor instead of trying to achieve superstar status so I don't find him annoying.

 

Reed: "Captain, Klingon ship off the port bow."
Archer: "Ohhhhh boy."

 

Oh shit, I forgot I wrote that.
The jab wasn't aimed at Scott Bakula, but was meant to be a stable at how certain Trek fans are.pissing about Trek 3.0 being "politically incorrect." In that sense, Archer's entitlement and frankly his bigoted attitude towards Vulcans in the first half of the series would likely be endearing to that.

I don't step out of my regular watering holes much, where the populace is use to my dry sense of humor, but I apologize nonetheless, however belated.
