To me the appeal of trek was that it delivered human centered (and often sentimental) stories in a science fiction setting. In doing so it was unique and alone in its genre.

I don't know what the hell I was watching for the first three years of this shows life, but it certainly wasn't that!

Shame about Coto etc and what he was trying to do, but B&B's lack of respect for their audience shone through all the way and doomed the franchise in the end.

I find it appalling that you would take the time to come onto the Enterprise section of the forum, and join in on an Enterprise thread, and without some way of substantiating your reasoning, you blatantly disregard the thoughts and feelings for the others just to stir a few flames (like me) in the cauldron.

You're entitled to your opinion, but the opinion is meaningless if you don't have any conclusive evidence to back it up. Conclusive does not equal the obviousness that the show has been cancelled, at least not to the community who's listed under the section "Enterprise" on TrekBBS.

I respect the opinion of others who do not like the show, but to come here and approach the matter in that tone, well, as I said, is appalling and unappreciated.

 

Now this is a slightly better, and more substantiated, way to address your complaints about the show.

Have been all week.

Found out Tuesday afternoon from sibling in NYC.
Have been mopeing all week.

Decision was made at the VERY TOP level, by you-know-who, on Monday afternoon.

Last minute attempts by interested parties with late night phone calls went to no avail.

I was so confident of other outcome right up till sister called Tuesday afternoon, thank God I had to work that evening or I would have fired off a really vulgar and crudely-nasty email!

Have calmed down since but still in a state of shock.

My apologies to all those who's hope were right up there with mine, my confidence in my sisters tid-bits just goes to show that ya can't second guess ONE PERSON's mind.

Sometimes even the ones-who-know, don't really know.

Just goes to show that these entertainment CEO's really do have the power of 'Life & Death' in the industry.

Anyway...I'm still waiting for someone to say hand on heart the show was up to much for most of its time on air.

Not stirring, just wanting a bit of debate here!

 

First, i still think that syndication was a bad move from the start, because mainly the Star Trek audience was always on non syndicated TV. You can't give something and decide to go back on it. The fact that Paramount and Bergman couldn't see such a simple evidence is ridiculous, and speaks loudly against their judgement.

About the show. Apart some characters, most of the crew were not proefficient at acting their charaters. And it started with Bakula. Quite frankly, i don't find him good enouph to be the main lead. He did not convince me 3 years ago, and he is not convincing me now either... But to be fair, they got 2 very lousy first seasons to start with...the season 3 was good but with an extremely long arc. Even I got tired of it in the end, and they probabely loose even more audience at the end of that season. Now they are taking the Farscape route with smaller story arcs, but it was really too late anyway...

So, if they want another Star Trek series, they better be ready to put it on a national channel, because if they go again for UPN, Sci-Fi or syndicated, be ready for another short one.

Putting a new TREK show on UPN would be akin to sticking one's wet finger in a light socket...losing it from the first knuckle down...and then going back a couple of years later with the next good finger and a glass of water to "do it RIGHT this time around...no screw-ups!"

The socket's still gonna burn and shock. UPN has proven it's little more than a women's-urban/hip-hop-reality programming network anymore. And a FRICKIN' awful one at that.

Yes, but had a proficent producer been in charge either A, long chats would have been had with the actor on what "take" they were looking for or, B, the character would have been changed to something Bakula could play.

The fact he was just allowed to keep on playing the same cardboard cut out for so long speaks volumes.

For the record, I stopped watching ages ago up until the Forge episode because I really wanted to know more about Vulcan history - even if they didn't do the best job of showing it. After that it started to get good. All sarcasm and shit aside, this season has improved much.
