Downton Abbey anachronistically hydrated

Every morning I wake up thinking it's 1923, but then I'm reminded that it's still the 21st century - #Diogenes Abbey

So, I assume the fifth series of DA is going to reveal that the whole thing is set on a nature preserve and that people only act like monsters to keep their children from learning that it's really the 21st century outside the walls?

I like to think there's some imp on set somewhere who had a bet: what'll you give me that no one will notice a bottle of mineral water sitting around until the photo's been published?!

The bottle was obviously forgotten by one of the Doctor's Companions, in a lost episode. :p

Whoever originally messed up, it's the publicity department that should have caught this before it went online. That said, it's probably generated more publicity for the fifth season than it would have received otherwise.

BTW, Netflix has a fascinating documentary about Highclere Castle itself.

It would be pretty brilliant if they put it there on purpose hoping that it would be noticed and generate this kind of publicity.

It will be brutal. I'm apathetic myself, but some might be friendly.

I choose to have a sense of humor about this. I've worked on backstage crews in the theatre, and I know that mistakes can happen.

And considering that every time I hear Mrs. Crawley speak I automatically hear, "Harriet Jones, Prime Minister," it's fun to speculate on in-universe explanations for how that water bottle got there. :p

That is quite brilliant. And of course adding the Doctor only vastly improves it. Imagine if they never told us, NEVER.. that this was to happen. And then ALL AT ONCE in the middle of some soapy Downton ep there. was. the. Tardis.

And we discover that Mrs. Crawley really is/was/will be Harriet Jones, or maybe they're twins separated by a century of time.

That would make me insanely happy!!!

Harriet Jones YES

And really, so much similarity
Okay, a story is beginning in my mind, and includes not only Mrs. Crawley, but her frenemy, the Dowager Countess. They're out walking one morning, bickering over some semi-trivial family issue, when they hear an odd wheezing sound behind them...

Much like this YA novel. :)

^Madame Vastra Investigates: the Death of Matthew Crawley

This would so vastly improve Downtown, this would be.. perfect television.
This show keeps killing off or losing anyone I give a damn about. If it weren't for Maggie Smith, I'd never bother with it at this point. I want a show with Maggie Smith and Shirley MacClaine raising havoc in Nazi occupied Europe as two old upper crust birds who the Reich thinks they can coopt all the while they are sowing the seeds of dissension and better manners throughout the continent. Sort of a cross between Allo Allo and Dad's Army set on the Cote D'Azure.
