Past threads about the subject of ENT coming back via NETFLIX have gotten pretty dusty, so I'm opening this new thread at ChristopherPike's request to start some fresh discussion!

I thought everyone involved had already admitted this was dead?

Yes, it was so exciting there for a while.

My first reaction to this recent Axanar trailer? Why can't they do that with the cast of Enterprise? History Channel special style - talking heads, cover the Romulan War and founding of the Federation?

As for this campaign, well... the facebook page still ticks over with likes on a regular basis and it's still contributed to regularly with images of the NX refit design. There might be video footage on the horizon, from one of the posts I've read.

Do I think more could be being done. Frankly, yes... but assuming what they say is true, CBS are regularly contacted and have ordered the trio behind the page not to engage in the kind of Kickstarter fund raising which enable Renegades and the aforementioned Axanar to get results.

I'd prefer that they create a new Trek series instead of resurrect a series that has been off the air for the better part of a decade.

Yeah when they did that kickstarter and only got $50... that was a pretty good indicator that interest was pretty low.

Any online source as proof? A link to back that up? I've been following this for months and never came across that. Should there be anything I've missed here, I'd quite like to see it.

Going back through the logs for replies from those running the site, time and again I find responses that say they've deliberated avoided crowd funding, to not get into trouble with CBS.

Lots to read, but time and again it's suggested they have conducted discussions with Netflix & CBS (who are the real stumbling block). Given those involved have a reputable connection to the Star Trek franchise, I see no reason to disbelieve it.

When I attempted to post congratulations to Axanar and a link to their video, they pulled it. A message query to them got a reply about not allowing links to fan productions that have asked for money. Again citing running into trouble with CBS as the reason they can't.

Here's another post dated March 18, I've dug out on this very crowdsourcing issue:

Why would CBS forbid them from "crowd sourcing" when they are allowing other fan films to do that very thing?

So which is it? CBS frowns upon crowd-sourcing or they (Drexler and Company) think it's pretty low to make fans pay? Neither reason really makes much sense.

I believe that this has already went as far as it can. Why would CBS put a revitalized "Star Trek" name back on a series that failed badly in the ratings, did poorly in syndication and hasn't sold well on various disc formats? It feels more like people trying to keep their names in play if CBS finally does decide to make a new Trek series.

If this was truly about love for Enterprise, then they could do a fan film (with crowd sourcing) and they could likely get the principles to come back.

Search me! I only support this cause. I liked it, amongst the other 54k. I don't run it.

And that's ultimately what doesn't make sense to me, as a massive fan of Enterprise. It's frustrating that Axanar can come up with a perfect faux documentary format to show Star Trek history. Produce such mindblowing results, on an event that perhaps isn't as important as those which created the Federation in the first place.

The obvious reason to me, seems like Enterprise would be beyond crowdsourcing. Funding required just couldn't be acquired within months. The main cast actors involved would undoubtedly be members of Hollywood unions, command fees beyond such a fan production etc.

And as somebody who took part in the original Save Enterprise/Trekunited $3 million donation thing nine years ago, it's hard not to find this as bitterly ironic. Given those experiences and remembering the reaction to such an approach, hard to go back over again.

I remember when someone on theforce.net called the original SaveEnterprise a cult. That was some interesting reading.

Was Netflix around when Enterprise ended? I was just thinking that if it had been around back then, with the strength it has today in making new series, and commissioning new seasons of cancelled shows, ENT could have had a season five. SaveEnterprise had a lot of feverish support, and the ENT fans in general were pissed the show was being canned after finally turning a corner in the last two seasons.

These days though, if they're ever going to bring Star Trek back to television, they should just make a new show. Though with the popularity of the new Trek films, I do wonder if this new show would be in a TOS setting of some sort.

No Netflix in 2005. Just TIVO, usual home recorders and lots of illegal torrenting... none of which factored into the ratings. That last bit certainly wouldn't! But it's interesting to reflect on what happened with the technology once TV got involved. Official streaming online would obviously be added to the ratings of a Star Trek show on the air these days.

Most recent post over at Facebook HERE:
Could just as easily be the way all series normally figure into plans CBS have... but thought it worth posting about.

Either some more crossover novels or a DirecTV ad featuring all the casts.
