To me he'll always be Robin from Super Friends. And who hasn't listened to his countdowns on the radio?
BTW: he was also Cliffjumper, Bluestreak and Teletraan 1 in the original Transformers as well as the voice of Ken in Battle of the Planets.
Listened to his Top 40 radio show in Germany on Armed Forces radio in the '70s. He was a smoothie, that one.
When I was a kid in the '70s, "American Top 40" was the thing to listen to on the weekend, Scooby Doo was a cartoon staple, and Battle of the Planets gave me a daily after school dose to satisfy my science fiction craving. A huge presence. Plus, however inadvertently, he coined a phrase which, for my friends and me has become immortal: "Ponderous, fucking ponderous..." Sorry to see him go.
Ken? I don't remember any Ken. I do, however, remember the character as Mark, the leader. I remember listing to Casey Kasem's Top 40 every Sunday afternoon. I'd sit on the floor of my bedroom, with my headphones on, and listen to the "long distance dedication" every week. He had such a great voice. Poor man. At least he's no longer suffering. His last few years were apparently dreadful, so at least his pain is at an end.
here a long Distance Dedication to a great man R.I.P Mr Kasem. you made my childhood fun! Good bye Robin. Shaggy
He was here in Washington state because his wife moved him up here and hadn't let his children see him in California. His daughter got control of his care and began end-of-life care for him. And the end came relatively quickly. For Casey Kasem, the suffering is mercifully over. ETA: I remember him as Shaggy, the voice of the Top 40 and Bumblebee!
^^^He voiced Cliff Jumper, not Bumblebee. Such a shame My fondest memories of him are as Shaggy and himself in his brief cameo in the Ghosbusters.
According to Wikipedia he voiced Shaggy from 1969 to 1997 and then from 2002 to 2009. I had no idea he was still doing it so recently. He was one of life's true originals.
He was also the voice of Robin on the 1966 The New Adventures of Batman, the DVD of which, I got the past Monday and have been working my way through it. It'll be harder to finish it now. And yeah, I remember his radio show, although it's been many years sine heard it. I don't even remember when it ended.
