Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

New set pics of the MILLENNIUM FALCON!!!!

Seeing these pictures of physically built alien exteriors and creatures and spaceships is just completely geeking me out :D

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

We still don't even know what parts any of these new actors are playing. I remember back when TPM was filming that announced casting of Terrance Stamp and Hugh Quarshie was portrayed as relatively significant...and just look how that turned out. A glorified cameo and a not so glorified extra with a few lines. Even Sam Jackson was just a cameo at first.

So yeah, again it's a wait and see situation. Some of these characters may hever very little to do in Ep7, but maybe have bigger roles in 8 and/or 9.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Quarshie I think would've been in Episode II, but reportedly, he had some harsh words about Lucas and either quit or not asked to come back.

So did Stamp, but his character was pretty much only intended to be in TPM anyway.

The internet movie rumor/information gathering engine has become so much more refined since episode i.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

From the muppets to ships, I'm just happy to be seeing real, physical models being used in this movie.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I feel like if they're building it, there's a good chance it will survive all three movies. Somehow I feel like at least one of the old cast is going to die though.

Also, I don't think the announced cast is really that big at this point. If anything, I bet some of these people are going to have very minor roles, but ones that set up for use in the spinoff movies.

The Falcon for many Wars fans - like myself - is almost as, 'alive,' as any living breathing character is. They'd be stupid to not keep the ship/stage for all 3 films.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I anticipate a "Star Trek 3" type destruction of the Falcon

Han- My god Luke, what have I done?

;)

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Sweet. It's not quite the completed Falcon, but just seeing it under construction is exciting enough. And I can definitely see some design changes to the X-Wing as well (particularly to the engine pods), which I'm okay with, since this is 30 years later and it only makes sense that things would have evolved a bit.

What's amazing about that set IMO, is they make the Falcon virtually true to life size. As many have hoped for it appears JJ is using far less green screens and more actual sets for the film.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

It's hard to put into words but when I saw the picture of the Falcon's cockpit being built in a real space, I got chills. It really feels like Star Wars is coming back in a way that I haven't felt since I got to see them on the big screens for the first time during the Special Editions re-release in 1996-97. Combine that with the amazing set pictures, Chewie's perfect costume and (at least from a visual point of view) this film is going to be amazing.

Same here. It would seem J.J. has a handle on what made the OT so much fun.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

That shot of the Falcon under construction made me feel like an eight-year-old kid all over again. This movie might be one of the best things to ever happen to the franchise.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I think the fact that they will not be relying on green screens as much is awesome. I'm sure the actors will like having a real Millennium Falcon to work with instead of just pretending it's there.

Yeah totally agreed about Chewie. I absolutely hated the way he looked in ROTS, but thankfully they were able to make him look like his old self again.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

CGI and greenscreen should be a condiment and flavor enhancer, not the main ingredient of the dish.

One of the most interesting things for me to watch as more elements of this triology unfolds is if JJ earns the wrath he got from some Trek fans and adherence to canon or not of heretofore film/books.

It's just an impression but Wars fans tend to be far less critical on things like, 'blue nacells,' as some Trek fans can be related to minor details.

From early appearances Abrams is on track with the actors he chosen and in terms of returning to some of the basics of the franchise.
