Cosmos - With Neil deGrasse Tyson

Well, I managed to stay awake during this 1 hour long monotone big word snooze fest.

Once again, they attack capitolism and spread the anthropogenic Global Warming crap on as thick as possible.

Pretty sad.

But hey, we are only mucking up 1/5 a second....

What's wrong with big words? What a curiously anti-intellectual statement. And it's even more fascinating to see a statement complaining about big words on the one hand, and then complaining about Anthropic ... well, anything on the next.

It's not an "anti-itellectual" anything. It's an "Anti-horrible narrator" thing. He is so mono-tomed his words just mumble together. Larger words just amplify the mumble...

At this point I am forced to conclude that the only reason Yanks watches the show is because he likes complaining about it.

Eliminating references to climate change, and the impact human activities have had on that change ... that wouldn't make the show "so much better" - that would completely change it from a show about scientific history, discovery, and possibility ... to one of willful ignorance and anti-intellectualism.

Seems like you're arguing for the show to abandon its fundamental purpose and intent.

I didn't say that would make it "so much better"...

hmmm....

But just the facts please... no political agenda required...

Reality is not a political agenda.

Yeah, about that ...

Pretty sad.

It's just disappointed because I think it could be so much better.

Just the facts, there. :techman:

.. no political agenda required...
The thing is, climate change is based on overwhelming evidence - the kind of which ought to make it a universally accepted theory in which we act promptly and reasonably to transition to a cleaner, more efficient energy society. That hasn't happened because of those who, politically, oppose such change - mostly for financial reasons (Big Oil™, for example).

If you don't see it, then well.... fine by me.

Launched by President Obama.

Viewed on Fox in order to get the "message" out to as many of the "anti-itellectual" idiots as possible.

"There are people that believe the universe ends here"

The show all but stated as fact that we are entering a period where 9 of 10 of every living thing is going to go extinct. (I mean really... that didn't raise any eyebrows?)

The very next day the IPCC releases their latest report.

Then the French comes out and announces that Climate Change/Global Warming is here and we need to "act now".

The last night they hit the humans are causing the end of it all unless we halt capitolism and don't put the combustion engine in a museum... blah, blah... the ice caps will return, blah, blah...

etc, etc, etc... There is more, but if you don't want to see it then why...

Soon you will be taxed at an all-time high to "fix" it when China is the biggest contributer...

...and of course "we" can't and it wont matter because they have your money...

The show said nothing at all about capitol cities.

Tyson doesn't talk in a monotone, to my ears. My complaint is that he uptalks in the middle of his sentences, making questions within the sentences. It's really annoying.

Wow.

So you really think it's a good idea for us to continue to pump tons and tons of toxins in the air from cars, factories and other sources? And that we shouldn't seek alternative means to power our civilization that would be more environmentally responsible?

You think human civilization will continue to use the internal combustion engine forever, never developing something better?

Because I kind of think having alternative means to power our civilization will be a good thing, and that someday the ICE will be a quaint museum piece.

The only thing I could *maybe" disagree with is the notion of the polar ice-caps restoring to preindustrial levels. That may be possible, sure, but the thing is that we're still in an ice age and at some point it will end causing the natural melting of the polar icecaps.

As to the show: I really liked the look and design of the solar-sail ship. And would've have expected at some point in the "next year" cosmic calendar we would have seen a terraformed Mars.

Maybe that's it. Maybe monotone is the incorrect term.

Watch out for those black helicopters, dude.

Na, I just saw Godzilla and they all fell out of the sky.

Pretty interesting, eh? :techman:

It seems Cosmos is reaching it's target audience.
