100 Classic Toys

Hmm, Fimo and Sculpey are two pretty popular modeling compounds...but I don't know how to connect them to TNZ

Bzuh, they're two different clues aren't they? I'm stoopid. My Little Pony is TNZ thread!

No, no that is two separate clues for two different toys. The first 'toy' isn't Fimo or Sculpey, it is a modelling compound that dates back to 1897. It is a British product.

Heh, Miss Chicken, I keep going back and editing as you're replying - sorry about that! My other answer is up above now :)

Ah, Plasticine!

Yes, plasticine. Inventor: William Harbutt 1897. I think is was better than Play Doh.

Edited to add -

My Little Pony - YES- Inventors: Bonnie Zacherle, Charles Muenchinger and Steven D. Aguanno 1983.

The humble Yo-Yo, not sure if it's had a mention, only quickly skimmed the thread, maybe the magic 8 ball? And are ball and cup, playing cards and dominoes generic toys? Sorry if I've duplicated any answers already given.

Struggling to think of toys and games, apart from my computer, I read a shedload (ooh, do fight n fantasy books 'count as a toy? You needed dice! :) ), or played darts or snooker/pool an awful lot.

The paddle ball isn't in the book.

Was/is totem tennis sold in America/Britain or is it only an Australian toy?

Train for younger kids: Thomas!

And I didn't see you respond to Patti PlayPal. Sorry if I just missed it.

I'd never heard of totem tennis, but it looks like a variation on tetherball, the difference being that the ball in tetherball is volleyball- or basketball-sized and is struck with the bare hands.

Thomas the Tank Engine was a Hornby train - there is apciture of him under the Hornby Train entry.

Sorry, I over looked Patti PlayPal. It isn't in the book.

It exists, though I've always called it swingball (UK).

OK, I was wondering why when I put totem tennis into Google it only came up with Australian websites.

Swingball/tetherball/totem tennis don't make the 100 Classic Toy book.

Next clue - a toy you look into.
