Well, like I said, the networks get to bid competitively. And that means that another network may make a better bid, which will bring the company more profit than if they just kept everything internal.

Well, I took it as a given that he would appear if this happened, but that's good news nonetheless.

I'd probably wait until the show is actually picked up before it gets its own thread. I can't remember a show exclusively discussed before that.

Hell, with the exception of this thread, which is discussing all new TV developments, the four series Netflix thing doesn't have its own thread yet.

The more interesting news, though, is that ABC is interested in picking it up. That could mean that AoS and Agent Carter would be back to back, which would make a lot of sense. Although I guess flip a coin on deciding whether this shows faith in AoS or that they're seeking a replacement for that show.

I think AoS is going to end up getting at least one more season, so I don't think ABC's quite looking to replace it yet. And putting Agent Carter behind it would probably do better than those sitcoms they have there now are doing.

Yeah, those sitcoms are odd. AoS doesn't have to worry about a lead in, but there's certainly no synergy.

Oh wow, I had no idea they were moving that quickly (I was thinking fall 2015 at the earliest, which could allow for a young Hank Pym crossover). This looks like spring 2015 at the latest if they aren't going to release in 2014. Shocking because it hasn't even been announced.

BTW, are there any Daredevil updates recently?

Wow, if that is true they are starting a lot sooner than I expected.

    Vancouver?

Could they find enough exteriors of the right vintage for that particular series?

Vancouver is cheaper to film at. They'll get more bang for their buck.

And regardless of logistics, after 20 years of filming genre TV and movies there, they've got the talent base ready to fill the jobs.

Wondering if Marvel is looking at Chris Haddock as a potential showrunner. Or is he busy with other stuff at the moment?

Gareth Evans would direct an Iron Fist movie if it could be R rated

I think this statement probably should be dismissed as unlikely for a number of reasons (mostly because it's talking about a movie instead of series). However, I'm starting to warm up to the idea that these four Defender series could be a bit heavier than Marvel's typical cartoon violence. First, I was reading about Jessica Jones and her backstory is really fucking dark. Second, the most famous run with Daredevil was with Frank Miller, who also isn't known for puppies and rainbows. Third, the Netflix format gives them more flexibility. The channel isn't afraid to show more HBO-style mature content and its opt-nature allows them to take risks without offending as many people.

Like I said, the comment is a long shot, but I could see something similar for this.

I'd much rather see the fun swashbuckling pre-Frank Miller / Marvel NOW! Daredevil.

I've seen a lot of people thinking that the freedom of Netflix will allow The Defenders series to go a lot darker than the movies and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and while I could see them going a little darker, I doubt they'll go full on HBO level with it. I don't have a problem with it if they do, I just don't know if they'd want to veer that far from what has been a very successful style for them.

What's the difference between that and Spider-Man?

Actually, I was indifferent to this until I read about Jessica Jones. It would be a weird shift in tone going straight from a daredevil to her.

Who's Spider-Man? Certainly not anyone who exists in this universe.

Besides, Murdock and Parker still have very different lives and personalities. Hell, Matt Murdock's more of a street-level Tony Stark.

So like Peter Parker then? Scientific genius that makes his own gear (or improves his natural abilities), wisecracker in and out of battle, dates the most beautiful women...
