I want to know who the hand is that's coming out of the picture. It can't be Clara unless she's amazingly double jointed, the Kates are over by the table and the science girls are not wearing black. So who is it?

It looks like Clara's right hand, so...?

This is odd, it is Clara hand (see the ring placement) but it does not line up. This could just be a continuity issue the VFX. Or maybe a duplicate Clara is also exiting.

of course it's Clara's hand. it's just that the hand is in the extreme foreground filmes with an unfortunate lense. Creates a bit of a forced perspective effect.

Watched it again last night. It was a different experience than in the cinema in 3D (less epic - I should only watch the show on the big screen from now on ).
Anyway, one scene I really love is how Ten kisses Clara's hand before he leaves and then winks at Eleven. Ten is such a player.

Once I saw the kids in that early sequence, I knew that the main result of the story was that Gallifrey was going to be saved. You don't kill kids on TV!

I didn't notice any instances of "All the Strange, Strange Creatures". Is there a second Tenth Doctor theme I'm forgetting?

Though some music from the Tenth Doctor's era was used ("The Dark and Endless Dalek Night"), so the past wasn't completely ignored.

There definitely wasn't a separate War Doctor theme (the "No More" scene of him taking out the Daleks was set to "I Am the Doctor").

In other words, Gold didn't score any new music and they reused and chopped his musical suites to fit. Boo.

It appears that they used the full budget for the visual things, including 3D! Visually spectacular episode!

Yeah I loved that as well, and kinda wish we got to see more of Ten's cheeky side in the special. It kind of felt like after the introductory picnic scene he became much more subdued than we're used to seeing him-- even in the lighthearted scenes with Eleven.

Of course it could just be that Smith is just SO incredibly animated and showy that everyone else can't help but look subdued in comparison...

Yeah I loved that as well, and kinda wish we got to see more of Ten's cheeky side in the special. It kind of felt like after the introductory picnic scene he became much more subdued than we're used to seeing him-- even in the lighthearted scenes with Eleven.

Really? I've been rewatching the second series and I didn't notice much of a difference. And he did have the most energetic reaction of the three Doctors when they figured out how to save Gallifrey.
On the other hand, this takes place after "The Waters of Mars" while he's on the run from his fate so it wouldn't be out of place for him to be a bit broody.

Earlier we saw pictures among the companions of Clara visiting the vault here with Kate. Clara has no memory of it, so I am assuming it's a visit in Clara's future. Also, when Clara shows up in Elizabethan England there's no sign of the vortex manipulator from then on, so where is it? It's all a little odd to me.

Well, I think the idea in the novels was that Susan was the last child on Gallifrey, or something. Anyway, you're right -- there have been prior references in the modern show to Time Lord children, but I didn't realize the significance of them until now.

Whoever put that in the novels obviously didn't do their math. The Second Doctor stated that he was over 450 years old, and he was a few centuries older by the time of The Ribos Operation - where Romana snidely suggested that his memory was getting "a bit foggy." And when he suggested she was too young to be his assistant (being fresh out of the Time Lord Academy), she said, "I'm nearly 140!". Therefore, Romana had to have been born after Susan.

BBC Worldwide has to be beside themselves with glee, even when you factor out the cut to Fathom and the theaters. That's basically free money, and I imagine they're already looking for a way to repeat that success.

Two million pounds (or about $3.2 million USD) sounds about right for a 75-minute episode.

Two million dollars is roughly what each 45-minute episode of Stargate had budgeted.

I know the BBC is cheap. I didn't know they were that cheap.

I really enjoyed this. I ended up seeing it twice; once by myself and again in the theater on Monday. Two observations:

This has been thoroughly debated upthread, but back in The End of Time, I got the impression that the Doctor destroyed Gallifrey along with the Daleks to protect the rest of the universe from both sides. Here, it was presented more as sacrificing the already doomed Gallifrey to destroy the Daleks. Of course, if and when the planet is restored, I suppose it's anybody's guess how just how the Time Lords will be depicted.

The other, incredibly minor, thing I noticed is that Osgood's scarf is actually rather different from the fourth Doctor's. The original was knitted with the garter stitch, whereas this one looks like it uses 1x1 ribbing. It doesn't really make any difference; it just seems like an odd decision on somebody's part.

Of course, if and when the planet is restored, I suppose it's anybody's guess how just how the Time Lords will be depicted.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a minor uprising to remove the High Council, depending on if the Master hasn't already offed a few of them. Especially since I have to wonder if the beings of consciousness plan was going to be a Rassilon and his cronies only thing.
