The question is whether or not they could have continued their marriage or physical relationship if Keiko was "stuck" that way.

It obviously wasn't a topic broached in the episode (for obvious reasons) but it *is* one to consider. What would the ramifications have been if Keiko couldn't have been brought back to adulthood.

Much of the Middle East? Not a good example of civilization. That child brides exist there is hardly evidence or argument for anything. A lot of things happen over there that don't happen in other developed parts of the world. Even here with the FLDS groups you mention, it's hardly an example of anything other than scatter groups of people who do things. By and large, child brides is pretty damn rare and widely seen as unacceptable.

^ Well, Keiko wouldn't be stuck...all indications are that if they hadn't reversed the effect, she would continue to age normally from that point. In which case I guess she and Miles would wait until her physical body was old enough before they got 'romantic' again.

The point I was replying to made it seem as though child brides haven't been around since "ancient times." It's obvious from reading any newspaper or online source that child brides are around right now. The location where it occurs is unimportant for this discussion. Child brides exist in the here and now.

And please note that I'm not saying it's acceptable. I find it reprehensible, no matter when/where/who is involved.

True she wasn't stuck as a child but by "stuck" I meant stuck as a child who had to re-age into an adult. For all they knew this was going to be the case until the magic wand, er, transporter solution was devised at the end of the episode.

Hey, I'm not the one who brought up the idea of Miles having snu snu with Keiko's under sized va-jay-jay.

Yes, but you're the one taking it too far and being down-right creepy with it.

This sort of thing happened in but with the gender's switched during the "Couple's Mask" quest line in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

If you don't know what's going on outside of this scene, it's one of the saddest moments in video game history.

F.M. Busby wrote a series of novels that made excellent use of relativity. The people who went on ships aged slower than the people who stayed on planets. In one instance, this resulted in two childhood friends who were originally just a few months apart in age becoming separated by time. The girl traveled with her parents on a spaceship, while the boy stayed behind on a planet. The next time they met she was about 5 years old (biologically) and he was an adult. It was embarrassing for both of them as they'd been very close as children, but clearly it was inappropriate for him to treat her as anything but a little kid instead of someone he could date, or even marry.

Indeed. We're talking about a society in which even having naughty thoughts is considered a disorder. Look at how they humiliated Barclay just because the cheerleader -- sorry, counselor -- gave him wood. A seriously fucked up position to take, I've always thought.

So... someone starts a thread about the moral implications of Miles having sex with his wife in a ten year old's body.... then apparently it's taking it too far when people discuss this?

It's not taking it too far when we simply discuss the episode. It's when certain posts get lurid and creepy and frankly a bit disgusting, that it crosses the proverbial line.

I'll agree that the concept of a grown man having intercourse with a child is disturbing at best... but if the freakishness, disgust or luridness of discussing the ramifications in a fairly unique situation doesn't appeal to some.... it would be advisable for them to skip over this thread I would think. The OP was about the moral ramifications of this... not the episode itself. Not sure how you get around that one.... talk about it, but don't actually talk about it.

^ We should at least "tread lightly" when choosing what kind of phrasing to use. No sick jokes or wink-wink or anything like that.

Really? It's pretty easy to spot the posts in this thread that crossed the line...at least for me. There are those that have discussed the issue in a mature manner and there are a few that haven't. Those stand out pretty loudly.

There's a vast difference between discussing the topic in an adult manner and saying "Maybe she grew her hymen back."

The devilish nudge nudge wink wink emoticon is completely inappropriate for the topic. Serious wtf.
