Does anyone have handy or a link reference to a side by side visual comparison of the blu-ray and older DVD versions of Wrath of Khan?

I'm debating purchasing the blu-ray but would like to see the differences, particularly the much maligned changes in coloring and DNR before I commit.

I just found this ranomly while googling, it's a link to another message board. It also compares the VHS and online (Netflix, etc.).

I didn't look at it thoroughly, but I did skim it, looks pretty intersting:

^ I think the trouble with that AVS forum comparison is that it uses the 2009 DVD. Which was released using essentially the same remastered print as used on the BD disc (although obviously at a lower resolution). It's not quite as stark a difference as it would have been to, say, compare the earlier released two-disc Collector's Edition of TWOK to the BD release.

Thanks for the link.... for the benefit of those not willing to follow:

While this is helpful, I'd really like to see a side by side of this effect, compared with the 2-disc DE, which I own.

TWOK was the worst Blu-Ray transfer I've ever seen. Everything looks blue and washed out. Even Regula looks blue

Amen--the blue was a mess--all the careful restoration down the drain by turning the the blue/cyan up to ELEVEN!

What a freakin' joke--if you click on that link above---the first image is from spock's death scene in TWOK.

There are 4 images from 4 different formats.
The overuse of blue in the final image of the Blu-ray transfer slaps you accross the face!

Does anyone have a side by side of Regula? If true, that WOULD be a reason not to buy.

Not a side by side, but up and down.

    Thank you Jeyl!!!

    Holy (profanity in profusion)!

What the (more profanity) were they thinking?!?!

This isn't TWOK... this is a new movie. Nimoy states in an interview or commentary at some point that TWOK is about strong emotions, particularly friendship and anger. It is supposed to be a 'hot' film. Now it appears to have been whitewashed, or soaked in cool ranch dressing.

So one last bit of reactionary melodrama... is that space lab regula one or V'Ger? Didn't we just have a grey and blue movie in TMP?

Holy %^&#$!@@*())^%, that is worse than I remember it.

Amazingly, there are some folks who say the blue version of Regula is EXACTLY how it looked in the theater 31 years ago!

But I have now read at least 5 different posts from people who have seen vintage prints stating, yes regula is red/brown in vintage 35mm prints!

Please fix this next time Paramount! The restoration was great now fix the color and give us the Director's cut and deleted scenes!

I really want to see TWOK on Blu-Ray. After sleeping on these images, I've decided that my desire to have the film in high definition outweighs my reaction to these images, so I' going to buy. After all, I very much doubt we're going to get a color-corrected version of the film anytime soon.

I do think that my eyes are going to adjust to the blue and when I take my eyes off the screen the real world is going to look orange. That's going to be weird.

100% agree - color correctness not that important to Blu-ray

What i mean to say is Blu-ray offers so much more than just a perfect picture--deleted scenes, seamless branching between versions....

so if the picture isn't 100% perfect there are other reasons to get the blu-ray.

But the TWOK blue-ray has the original theatrical cut, no branching, and just an extra commentary and that's it. The Director's cut from DVD is the way to go, it's the correct color and looks great! (Though I do wish it had the one-shot two-camera exchange in the turbo-lift like the ABC version)

Agreed. I really enjoyed the ABC version the best.
