As a massive TNG fan I have always been torn as to which Enterprise is best. I think they are both great in different ways,

Enterprise D - Massive ship, beautiful design, cool bridge & home for the TNG series for 7 years.

Enterprise E - Super sleek design, cool bridge, altogether darker.

For me the Enterprise D just edges it.

Would depend on the situation. If I was going to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and so on I'd go with the D as it seems to be much more comfortable.
But if I was going to a potentially hostile situation I'd choose the E since it is built that in mind.

I voted for the E. Mainly because it has everything the D has with more.

Also it gives me another chance to share this with all those who haven't seen it.

Enterprise D and Enterprise E parts begin at 7:09-13:01

D, a thousand times D. I've never gotten tired of looking at it and watching the new blu-rays only confirms its timelessness.

I found the E interesting for a while but as time goes on I got a little bored of it. To me the Enterprise should be kind of grandiose but the E is so vertically compact it doesn't give off that vibe at all.

I have never understood why the powers decided the Enterprise-D wouldn't work in the movies. It looks amazing in Generations.

Da'Deee ... of course.

There's a lot about the E that is unknown, was it designed as a Borg killer? Is it even a exploration starship at all? While we never saw (iirc) any family members, any children, are they present on board?

:)

I'd say the NCC-1701-E. From first impression the Ent-D it looked top heavy. (Yes I know in space it doesn't matter). The E-E looked right from the start.

I agree, it did look great in generations. As cool as the crash scene in Generations was, I was totally gutted. I remember hoping the next ship would be a Galaxy class as well. Took me a while to get used to the smaller Enterprise E.

I am one of those whho never ever liked the Ent-D. It is too top heavy and the star-drive section looks too alien to me. I tried to like it but I never really could. I was so happy to see it blown up in Generations.

I really like the Ent-E. Now if that had been the design they used for the show then I would have been happier.

Now, having said all of that the interior, specifically the bridge of the Ent-E is terrible. It looks too cluttered and it really looks as if it is on a stage rather than something real.

John Eaves and Herman Zimmerman hit the nail on the head with the Ent E, wish we could have been seen it in more than 3 films.

I don't get why people keep saying that. Somehow fans seem to think that all the ships in the FC battle scene must be designed as all purpose battleships.

From what I gathered, the E-E is as multi-purpose as the E-D, and deployable as an explorer as much as a battleship. Same thing goes for the E-D. I mean, look at how many Galaxy-class starships we saw during the Dominion war, and they were kicking some serious arse.

I'd go for the E-E, simply because it's the more modern ship, with more advanced sensors, shields, weapons too yes, and it's likely that the sciencelabs and stellarcartography are all far more advanced. And the fact that there are no children aboard would make me more at ease. I love kids, but the idea of taking them into possible hostile or otherwise dangerous situations in deep space feels unsettling to me.

Definitely Enterprise-D. She went way before her time (I liked to imagine the ship was getting ready to finally embark on 10-12 year exploration mission at the time of Generations).

Had things gone differently with Star Trek VIII...

The D just looked more "real" whereas the E... looked like an artificial computer graphic.

Someone on this forum once did some photoshops of what it would have looked like of the E-D had survived or of the E-E was indeed a Galaxy class and what it would look like in First Contact. I have to, as much as I love the E-E, it didn't look bad.

*EDIT* Found them!

Those were neat. Only flaw I find in em is the warp core of the D didn't have those plasma tanks next to the warp core.

That seems a pretty big design flaw, that the tanks full of gas that kills everyone instantaneously can be punctured by a sudden impact. I could just picture Barclay carrying a heavy piece of equipment, stumbling and shattering one, killing every body. I'd want that crap stored behind something that isn't easily shattered.

Winner. :bolian:
