RIP Michail Ansara : confirmed

When I first saw Michael Ansara in Star Trek as Kang I recognised him as Cochise as I loved the TV series Broken Arrow as a child.

Other roles I enjoyed him in were as Elric in Babylon 5 (one of my favorite episodes of B5

and as Lame Beaver in Centennial, a series I recently bought on DVD and rewatched it - it had been more than 30 years since I saw it on TV.

He had such a wonderful voice.

Re: RIP Michael Ansara : confirmed

The last of the three warriors has left us.

He was also the first (and perhaps only) actor to bring some dignity to the character of Mr. Freeze.

It is truly sad, he was a great actor.:(

Does nobody else think he would have been better in TSFS than Chris Lloyd?

I like Chris lloyd, but he ain't a klingon and Ansara's stature and voice were iconic.

I know they wanted someone with (then) cache' in the publics mind but really did Chris lloyd really sell any tickets or generate buzz?

I think at 61 at the time of filming he could have pulled it off.

Oh well, i know very few people agree with this sentiment.

Just learned of Mr. Ansara's passing. Sad day but a long and fruitful life. Qa'pla!, Mr. Ansara. The warriors in Sto' Vo' Kor are honoring him as are we.

My first thought when I heard the news was my dearly departed grandmother. Back in the day she loved "Broken Arrow" and thought he was the most handsome man on television. R.I.P

You gotta give him props for turning this:

I find it interesting that this board is recognizing him for his long career as a gifted character actor, but the press at large keeps referring to him as "Star Trek actor Michael Ansara".

Because Star Trek is currently popular. Plus, it is probably one of his roles that is more well known to current audiences.

That just shows how large Star Trek looms in popular culture and the public consciousness!

Actually, the first role I remember seeing him in was as the religious fanatic in the original Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (1961), seen here with then-wife Barbara Eden.
