Don't worry, I'm with you on this one: I didn't when I was younger, but now I really prefer the season 1/2 uniforms. They look like real space suits from the future could look like. Plus, I hate the elastic waist band on the 3–7 uniform tops. Somehow it makes them look really cheap.

I agree on the youth thing. When I was younger I thought those season 3-7 uniforms were sharp. But somewhere along the way, they started to seem really out of place for people working on the edge of explored space in, possibly, hazardous conditions.

I think it really came into focus a few years ago when I was watching The Enemy. Watching it I realized those uniforms were really inappropriate for work in the field and likely a pain in the ass when someone on the ship had to actually work.

I like the S3+ uniforms, they just looked more... like clothes. The spandex one-piece deals in S1/S2 just looked silly.

The Enterprise uniforms did look good as utilitarian, duty, uniforms that suggested they were in much more rugged time. But, yeah, not really great for meeting new species for the first time. They'd be like, "Are you here to greet me or are you going to change my oil?"

    We made a test:

    - A 23 old girl with laser corrected eye sight.
    - A 33 old women not needing eye correction (says a recent vision test)
    - A 40 old guy wearing glasses

Neither of us could read the episode titles especially not the text below them (star dates etc) on a 32" HD-TV set from 2.5...3m away. Sorry, but if (any) viewers say they could read it COMFORTABLY under these conditions, they must be lying. Why make the menus so small when the rest of the screen is empty? And then even repeat this non-sense for all(?) seasons.

And yes, 32" is definately too small for really enjoying the HD of TNG, in my opinion.

A 32" HDTV is down-right tiny. I'm nor surprised you have a hard time reading the menu text from a comfortable distance. Heck, I've got a 46" set it takes some "work" for me to read it from a reasonable distance. (Though I do have 20/30 vision with glasses.)

    On the set:

The "jump to warp" sequence we see from inside the ship a couple of times in this season does look nice and good. Wish it was used more in the series but I think it was only used three times.

We get it, you think the text is too small. Let's move on...

The only thing that seemed impractical to me was the zipper in the back. I used to always wonder how the heck they put those things on by themselves. :p

In all honesty "we're not supposed to see that" as it's not "really there" or if it IS there a design feature of the uniform not the "zipper." As we all know zippers are obsolete in the 24c, they have "nanoseam" closures the clasp the uniform shut int he front. This is very, very nicely demonstrated when Ro takes off her tunic in "Ensign Ro" (further suggesting that there's a "nanoseam" between the top and pant of the female uniform to make it look like one piece. Meaning the two-piece look of the male uniform is a design feature.)

Beverly uses her zipper in "Naked Now".

I love that middle shot from BOBW. Dammit, now I have to go watch the trailer again! You bastard :techman:

EDIT: Hmm, the rear of the nacelles in that shot don't glow very brightly at all. I hope CBS-D can fix that, or can we (TECH) our way out of it?

Important is not the age, important is the sensitivity of the retina center. I for example have 130% sharpness there, thus can see much details even in long distance. I dont need a big screen TV to see details in a picture even some meters away.

Autistic persons even have a much sharper visiblitiy - they can see details 20 meter away, which normal people could only see in 7 meters distance. They probably would see every detail on a 19" flatscreen, where others need a 40" TV.

A simple mistake. It was Gene's "vision" that by Trek's time zippers were obsolete and no longer used. In NN it's either a pure mistake simply from it being early in the series or what Beverly grabs for is simply a zipper-like device that's not an actual zipper. ;) Likely, again, something we're "not supposed to see" and is supposed to be an invisible nanoseam.

Seeing that immediately brightened up the Fathom screening last week. From pale and washed-out to wowwww.

So you're calling people liars now? I can make out the damned backwards NCC on the saucer when they run it on reverse angle. At ten feet, I have no issues making out the menu details including the episode titles.

You and your friends have some shitty vision if you can't make it out or your sitting a hell of a lot farther away from the TV than three meters. It's one or the other...

Ah, so basically they're supposed to be like those zippers around the neck we weren't supposed to see on the TOS uniforms.

Shame then that they were so incredibly obvious, even in SD.
