Films that made you hungry.

Got my November issue of Total Film today, one of the pieces of mail in the dialogue section asked which movies made you hungry as you watched. The chili dog scene in Point Break was suggested.

For me it was the scene in Saving Private Ryan, where Tom Hanks' character, Captain John Miller, was at a small command post a week after the Normandy landing. He witnesses soldiers shaving with hot water, drinking hot thick black coffee and eating sandwiches made with thick cut fresh bread. He, mostly likely, had been eating cold field rations for a week. Tom Hanks' (one of my favorite actor) eyes quietly told us how much he envied those men, he all but drooled over the food and coffee he was seeing.

I felt he's hunger, I experienced it sitting in there the theater. And I had only ten years at the time.

Were there any movies that actually made you feel hunger as you watched?

:)

I hate to say this, but Fat Head. I totally had to go to McDonald's after watching that stupid documentary. Even worse, I try to avoid fast food and was watching that documentary on the recommendation of a friend who thought all my raw food/vegan* documentaries were unbalanced and to listen to the other side's view!

(*I am not a vegan. I just like documentaries that explore different types of healthful foods and lifestyles.)

Inglorious Bastards had some almost pornographic shots of creme. Soon afterward I discovered my local grocery store starting puting containers of freshly whipped cream in the produce section next to the strawberries. Like three weeks in a row, I took home strawberries and cream. Nom. No nazis involved.

All I can think of is films that made me not want to eat... the food scenes in Napoleon Dynamite for example. Yikes.

For television it's got to be Twin Peaks, with it's multiple scenes and dialogue revolving around pie, doughnuts and coffee.

For movies,Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, for obvious reasons.

Any film with diner scenes, steaks and sushi or noodles will make me hungry. Also quite a few that will put will me off, including Oldboy, Mr Creosote and Killer Joe.

Not so much a film, but when I watch Food Network late at night when I can't sleep, there's inevitably a marathon of Triple D, Chopped, or ICA and suddenly I'm making a swiss chard and kitten burrito on a candied tortilla with surstromming salsa at 3 AM.

Oh, wait, the question was about foo-

... Nope, food on TV/film has never much interested me. Too static and unreal to get my attention, I guess. :p

Any of the columbo movies were the murder buys/offer/makes him something to eat. lol

Very thing happened with the last one i watched were Shatner(Playing a actor playing a detective), pulls out of the fridge, a tub of cold crisp celery and starts munching it........put me in the mood for celery right there, and i'm scottish, celery is poision to me. lol

I wouldn't say hungry per se, but Zombieland really put me in the mood for some Twinkies - which you can't really get here...

(except for specialist mail-order)
