Series 7 FINALLY Starts Shooting

How would you do it?

Write something completely original?
But it's a Christmas story. Once you've done the Santa Claus episode, the Christmas Tree episode and the episode which just happens to take place at Christmas, where do you go and what do you do? Moffat's solution is to write homages to classic Christmas stories.

I dunno. A "Doctor battles the Krampus" story would be pretty awesome. Get Gabriel Woolf to do the voice of the Krampus, reuse the Beast CGI model from "The Impossible Planet," and you've got gold. There's no reason why a Doctor Who Christmas story needs to be sweet. It can be a "Doctor versus a monster that wants to consume the Earth" kind of story. :)

And, to be honest, when I think of "The Snowman," I think more of the Irn Bru commercial. And I'd imagine, as a Scot, Moffat does, too. :)

Apparently what Smith said about next series was in response to a question about reports he had signed a new contract through 2014. The exact quote is, “It sounds like you’ve signed something else, when in fact I was always going to be around.” Which is rather less definite about how long and how many episodes he'll be around for than early reports suggested.

Also, no formal transmission date confirmation at the event.

Xmas special 'inspired' by "The Snowman".

Oh, fuck no. Tell me they didn't actually fucking go there? Talk about the inevitability of an unloved season.

Fuck.

I mean... fuck, no, not the fucking Snowman.

It's A Wonderful Life, Miracle On 34th Street, that ballet they were talking about, Charlie fucking Brown, fine. But the fucking Snowman? What, are they going to get pliers round REG's nuts to make him sing soprance for the full experience?

Yeah, I know, "hark at the fanboy slamming it before it's aired..."

I just really *reallY* fucking hate The Snowman and everything to do with it, because it's so fucking inescapable every fucking year. And I hate the pliers-up-the-skirt song. And the animation.

The Star Wars Holiday Special is better...

TBH all I want to know - and more accurately all I want is a "no" - is whether they pull an "all the Daleks in the universe have been magically destroyed forever, honest guv."

If no, I need no further details.

If yes, I want to know why the production team haven't learned from the predecessor's mistake...

Xmas special 'inspired' by "The Snowman". In the ranks of Bad Ideas, Moffat's decision to connect every Xmas Special with some existing Xmassy story is right up there.

Do you think the story will revolve around a child and their phobias

Nah moffats more clever than that

;)

I sense that you may have a doubt or two about the Christmas Special

Well, he's 0 for 2 so far; unless you're counting the schmaltzy antithesis to everything I want from a Doctor Who story stakes. (And to be clear if I'd seen them when I was 10 I'd have hated them even more. Maybe I was a sick little boy but I prefered my DW stories with people meeting nasty ends at the tentacles of people in rubber monster costumes.)

Well to be fair, A Christmas Carol was 'based' on an old chestnut of a holiday story and it turned out quite well. So I'm not going to get too upset over the Snowman thing.

To be honest though, I'm not even sure what The Snowman is. A British thing I take it? "Quick! To Wikipedia!"

Heh. I like your idea. :D

Though to be honest, I guess that the main reason why this whole "Snowman" business doesn't bother me is that I'm not very familiar with "The Snowman" to begin with, apart from being vaguely aware that it exists.

Cue "But Moffat's just ripping off Futurama" shouts if that were the case...
