Does anyone know if they are going to put all of these HD episodes on Netflix instant streaming?

Maybe they were discovered after the Farpoint and Code of Honour had been signed off as completed, we know they rushed to meet the deadline. It's a real shame though, reminds me to a far lesser degree of the first few episodes of TOSR with the first Enterprise model.

There's been no official announcement that they will.

It wouldn't surprise me if they do, but certainly not this soon after the disc release (they want to recoup their costs) - and they might be waiting until the entire series is done.

They'll probably want to sell them in syndication as well for a couple years before releasing them for streaming. Unless Netflix is willing to make a substantial outlay to stream them simultaneously.

They have (in the first season anyway). And I agree with you.

You don't need to see the beam twice do you???? They also never went back to digitally erase the power cords coming out of the sickbay beds either.

In this case, you do sort of have to see it twice due to how it was edited. If the cut to the security guard happened just as the pyro goes off, then I agree with you -- you wouldn't have to show the beam twice. However, the edit is unchanged and thus they should have shown what causes the flash on the guard's abdomen. They certainly thought it was necessary in 1988, and that was how the shot was conceived.

Also, in regard to the squib wire, I'm just pointing out that it (and the squib) were erased -- I'm not making a judgment about what should be erased and what shouldn't. Don't kill the messenger, in other words.

Totally biased here of course, but putting them up on Netflix isn't such a bad idea. If they go up as they are completed, we could watch them and report back to CBS any mistakes we might find... ahead of the Blu-ray releases. Since the show is already on Netflix, they should just replace the old SD versions with new 480p down-scaled versions, sourced from the new HD masters. This way, there would still be an incentive to get them in 1080p on Blu-ray.

There's precedent for this. TOS-R episodes went up on XBox Live in November 2006 (in 480p & 720p), two months after the show started airing on TV... and a full year before they became available on HD-DVD (and it didn't come out on Blu-ray for another year and a half).

The Horta was also inorganic, being based on silicon rather than carbon. In some ways, Home Soil is pretty similar to TOS's The Devil In the Dark.

I never thought about it before, but you’re right, the broad strokes of the stories are the same.

A station manned by Federation citizens encounters a non-carbon life form that they fail to recognize as life, out of ignorance they harm/kill a bunch of them in the pursuit of their own endeavor, the life form retaliates by killing people, the Enterprise figures out what’s going on, and they all make peace in the end.

A difference is that peace with the Horta was a boon to the human endeavor, but peace with the crystalline life meant the end of the human endeavor and the wasting of years of work.

Hehe... I love the little details you now get with the BluRays, for example the gibberish text in the newspaper of the Dixon Hill episode:

I got an info from Amazon here in Germany, that they are in touch with CBS about this and get an info out as soon as they know more. It seems, you maybe even get the replacements from Amazon automatically, if you bought them directly from them.

Coming of Age still works fairly well. Wesley comes across less like an annoying know-it-all and more like a real, everyday kid for once. And was actually pretty likeable. I also forgot completely about his chat with Worf in the Holodeck, which was a nice little scene.

The Quinn and Remmick stuff was really well done as well. I haven't seen Conspiracy in awhile, but I assume at this point they were still their normal, human selves? Quinn's overly nasty attitude towards his old friend Picard early on definitely had me wondering...

The only weak point of the remastered episode I thought was the Starbase. Not sure how much of that was the original model/painting/whatever, but it just looked VERY fake and videogamey.

Does anyone else thing the girl candidate in this episode comes across as way out of her league? Somehow either how the character was written or how the actress portrays her she doesn't seem like the ultra-smart Starfleet material. And I'm pretty sure Wesley was passed over for entrance due to Affirmative Action.

Pretty sure they were both unchanged at that point... it would be odd for Quinn to tell Picard about a possible conspiracy if he was trying to conceal one at the same time (notice how his attitude is completely flipped in "Conspiracy", denying anything's wrong). Also, if either of them were infected, why didn't they try to infect an officer on board the Enterprise to destroy it before it got to Earth (like the Horatio)?

Well it could have just been a ploy to gain more knowledge about the Enterprise and Starfleet, using a little simple misdirection.

Maybe they weren't ready to tip their hand and start destroying starships just yet.

Although I agree, the fact Quinn denies anything's wrong later does make it more likely he wasn't infected yet.

In the documentary the one responsable for the composition took some liberty to enhance the sequence according to his personal taste (adding glow around the planet for example).

 To be fair, even in the 24th century, Starfleet still seems predominantly white male for some reason. But yeah, she seemed a bit out of her depth -- though she was right to be confused at the matter/antimatter 1:1 answer, as we see a chief engineer on the Enterprise explicitly ask for the mix to be 25:1 in "Skin of Evil"!

I believe you're thinking of the Spacedock in 1100etc, not the matte painting of a ground-based installation from Coming of Age.
