Most powerful scene in TNG without dialogue.

This may not quite count, and although there is some dialogue in it, the most powerful moment was when words weren't used at that moment. It comes at the end of Nemesis where Riker and Picard say their farewells. Right after they shake hands, they stand their just looking at each other. At that point you know that it's over. Also a powerful scene, was the look Data gave to LaForge right before he activated the force-field. Then LaForge nods his head and closes, then opens his eyes at Data...again...you knew it was all coming to and end. Two tear jerking moments for me during the TNG movie runs.

Good call. It's hard to believe there were actually some decent scenes in that film.

On the boat in Generations when Picard gets the subspace message about the fire and reads that his only family have perished.

Truth be told, I came into Nemesis with the idea that someone was going to die, and I don't know, maybe it was just me or a lucky guess, but I had assumed Data was going to be killed off before I even saw the movie. Agreed. I think they sold the whole show on his talent in that way. Another example is him in "Lessons" sitting across the room from the flute & then crossing to it to close it. Quite theatrical, that

Also, in Chain of Command, when a broken Picard musters the strength to beat the hell out of the torture controller, until Gul Madred enters. He eyes the damn thing up for like a minute or more before busting it up. LOL

I am going to go with the scene from "The Measure of a Man" where Riker is researching Data's specs and finds the information regarding his off switch - Riker's gamut of emotion as he goes from thinking about his case to thinking about his friend was pretty powerful.

My all time favorite is the day that Sarek shed a single tear for music. The effect of the multiple reactions in that room was intoxicating, as it heightened with the music

The concert in "Sarek" that ends to reveal Sarek crying during the performance. A truly rare artistically directed sequence during TNG.

I'll have to go with Lessons, the scene in Picard's quarters when he believes Nella Daren is dead.

He closes the case for his flute and sits down, looking completely dead inside.

That scene always chokes me up a bit, even though I know she's not dead!

Well, this isn't TNG (it's DS9), but still very powerful. At the end of "Hrd Time" when O'Brien is about to kill himself. You can see the rage he is feeling, then when he sees the weapons locker and you can see him go from anger to extreme guilt and depression. Very powerful.

To build on the DS9 part, to me it's the last scene in "what we leave behind" when Jake just stands there with Kira looking into space wondering where his father is. As a father myself, I cannot watch that scene because I will cry, so I avoid it like the plague.

This thread has been pretty successful despite the low post count. Some of the examples are great especially the DS9 additions. I think I will post a similar thread to the General Trek section and see what kind of responses we get with the entire Star Trek universe.

Poor Picard, he has to be the most tortured, screwed up character in Star Trek.... living a lifetime as someone else, assimilated by the Borg, being used to kill & assimilate countless people as Locutus, tortured by Cardassians, having to kill his evil clone self, the remainder of his family is all killed in a fire, having to kill his duplicate so he didn't hop into the shuttle craft that would have resulted in their destruction, got a large knife shoved into his heart and needing an artificial heart...... surviving the Stargazer while his beast friend dies and can't have nookie with his wife, Dr. Crusher..... the list goes on.

I remember before I went to see the movie, huge rumours were flying around that a main character was going to die in that movie..... I knew this when I started to watch it and man they sure played that rumour well.....

At first I was thinking it was going to be Riker killed off when he was fighting hand to hand near the end and almost fell to his death.... that and it'd be pretty tragic right after Riker and Troi got married.

Then I was thinking it was going to be Picard who was killed off near the end.... to save the crew and Earth.... and I didn't think it was going to be Data until he transported Picard back to the Enterprise and then he pulled the "Spock Sacrifice."

I say the "Spock Sacrifice" because Spock came back to life and didn't really get killed off.... while Data transferred every memory and element of himself into B4 and his traits started to show at the end of the movie when B4 started to sing the song Data sang at Riker/Troi's wedding.... and then Picard smiled and walked out, giving that hint that the essence of Data was still alive....

.... possibly a hint that he could be eventually transferred to another body (or perhaps B4 got an upgrade later on)

I wanted to add one to the list, after watching the episode last night during dinner.

The scene in "Legacy", when Riker beams back to the Enterprise, cradling Ishara Yar's unconscious body in his arms. The look in Riker's face and eyes just say it all, as he looks to his shipmates in the transporter room. Very powerful, IMO.

There's a good minute long section of Attached at the end of the campfire scene, when Crusher & Picard lie down together to sleep. It was a very simple moment, after the conversation about their feelings about one another, but it was a profound addition to the episode

Most of the ones I was thinking of have been mentioned:

Picard's tear in BOBW,
Sarek's tear in Sarek,
Picard playing the flute at the end of Inner Light.


One more that struck me, even though I don't think it's the greatest episode, is when Geordi temporarily gets his vision in Hide and Q. The wonder that he conveys, seeing with normal eyes for the first time was really something, including his view of Tasha. I really thought they were going to pursue some type of relationship between those two characters when I saw that.
