Wasn't quite sure where to put this, and I haven't seen a thread about it yet, but there was apparently an incident at LAX where Shatner's pants fell down while being searched by our TSA gestapo. At first it sounded kind of funny, like it might have been one of his quirky PR stunts, but it's really quite embarrassing and it kind of pisses me off now. Here's the article:

Really? They think Shatner needed to be searched? Have these people been living under a fucking rock for the past 50 years not to know who this particular guy is? Is TSA SO DETERMINED to prove that they don't racially profile that they go after this guy? Of all people?? :brickwall:

He and Jesse Ventura should spearhead a class-action lawsuit after this debacle.

Hilarious! I can barely imagine how embarrassing this must have felt.

And yeah, it's extremely ridiculous who they examine at times. But hey, everybody's equal in front of the law.

In the end, I'm honestly just glad the poor guy was wearing underwear. That would have sent this story careening beyond the limited purview of the Toronto Sun. :o

So what everyone who is famous for something is exempt?
Oh, give me a break! We've all seen the articles and YouTube videos at how these perverts jack up old women and molest little children at the airports. TSA Agent behavior in general is deplorable, demeaning and, some could argue, un-Constitutional. If they treated people with a little greater dignity, it probably wouldn't be so bad, but the reality shows otherwise. You obviously haven't been paying attention at what's going on at our airports. This is merely a symptom of a MUCH greater problem. If Shatner's pants dropping draws attention to that problem, then I think that's awesome! Doesn't make any of it right, though.

Just because he is a famous white guy without a beard doesn't imply that he should not be searched. I am not a friend of exaggerated airport security measures but a quick body search is hardly a big issue.

^^^ What does it matter if he's white? Is this action is more or less deplorable if, say, this happened to Morgan Freeman? Oh, wait...I forgot...he has a beard.

He can be lucky that no crazy US citizen sues him because he dropped his pants in front of children and women.

In your rant you clearly implied that you have issues with security officers searching famous white folks:

Have these people been living under a fucking rock for the past 50 years not to know who this particular guy is? Is TSA SO DETERMINED to prove that they don't racially profile that they go after this guy?

Actually, no. I take issue with the fact that they go out of their way to search anyone EXCEPT those of the Arabic/Persian persuasion. Yep! I said it! And I've seen it happen. 80 year-old women, children - white, black, hispanic - whatever - being pulled for searching. All while the Arab with the 3-foot long beard, wearing a hijab, his wife (or wives) decked out head-to-toe in her burqa and brood of 7 rowdy kids being allowed to walk through the line unquestioned. Yeah. Makes a lot of really good sense.

THAT is what I have a problem with. The Shatner thing should be a no-brainer and it honestly surprises me how anyone could defend such indefensible behavior.

If Shatner's pants dropping draws attention to that problem, then I think that's awesome!

I wonder if I could get Mulgrew on board with this.. she is sweet on championing causes. Might be hard to get her into sweat pants like the Shat though.
You're trying to get Kate to drop her pants again? This is how restraining orders come about, you know?

She'll do it for America. And attention will be drawn and it will be awesome.

You saw a Muslim woman with a hijab and a beard? Perhaps you might wanna visit the eye doctor instead of spouting out racist rants about oh-so-wicked looking Arabs not being searched.
Rules apply for everybody. Welcome in the West.

Read my post again. You deflect the point I'm making with an infantile jape showing that you're the one in need of visual correction.

Wait a minute.. maybe we could get ALL FIVE CAPTAINS to drop their daks in protest of being felt up by airport thugs. It would be like that documentary or that convention in London. All five!!

I would need minions with cameras for this.

Men don't wear hijabs and a racist rant is hardly a point.

Of course, what you've seen is indicative of nothing but your own experience, not a general trend. "Random search" means "random search," not "say it's random but then racially profile Arabs." I'm not sure you even understand the point of making it random--it's specifically so a terrorist group can't rely on an attacker's appearance to get them through security. Oh, they only profile Arab-looking men? Recruit women with light skin. So much for that, huh?

I guess we could just have 'em strip-search everyone. Would ya like that?

Do you have evidence that they are deliberately ignoring muslims, or is that just an assumption based on your personal experience of American airports?

You having seen it happen a few times is not evidence of anything, since not all muslims would be searched in any case.
