The average late '70s Muppet is smarter than your average American politician, not to mention more coherent. Modern debates don't even qualify as real political debates in the true historic sense and most of the participants can barely handle the dumbed-down format. I'd hate to see how they'd fare in the mid-19th century a'la Lincoln and Douglas.
