David (Harry Potter) Yates to direct Doctor Who The Movie!

I still feel someone at the BBC is playing Moffat and Yates off against one another to a degree because the BBC could clear this up quite easily with an official statement.

That's what puzzles me. It would be a very simple matter for the BBC to clear this up. Yet, I don't think they gain anything by creating this conflict.

If I had to guess, which I don't but I'll will anyway, they may be planning the film for after Moffat's departure. They want the pieces in place now for production to begin shortly after he leaves.

Why? Maybe they know he's against the film and will wait for the new show runner? And, clearly, the BBC couldn't announce that the film will come out after Moffat leaves because that would cause quite a ruckus!! Not to mention ill will!

Eh, maybe this is all a smokescreen, to keep us distracted and looking the other way, while they prepare a Theatrical Movie on the sly for the 50th Anniversary

Quick, someone get Edward Russell on the Batphone, Yeats has been talking about it again!

What's going on here eh?

and now it's a continuation of the series when before they said it would be stand alone.

the plot thickens.

One interpretation is that Yates wants to do a movie, has several ideas about how to make that movie, but hasn't yet had any official discussion about making that movie with the appropriate parties.

Except that he has, with Jane Tranter and BBC Worldwide.

To quote from the original story in Variety:

"Harry Potter" director David Yates is teaming up with the BBC to turn its iconic sci-fi TV series "Doctor Who" into a bigscreen franchise. Yates, who directed the last four Potter films, told Daily Variety that he is about to start work on developing a "Doctor Who" movie with Jane Tranter, head of L.A.-based BBC Worldwide Prods.

So hang about...now it may tie in to the show, and it will be 5/6 years away...strikes me that Yates' position keeps shifting all the time here

People think making a film is a linear progression of cause and effect, but actually...
I'm trying to remember Neil Gaiman's exact quote from his introduction to the screenplay of Beowulf. It's something along the lines of "Movies are something that happens as the accidental byproduct of meetings."

And who has said Tranter is actually involved?
The BBC did, back when she went to Los Angeles for the purposes of developing a Doctor Who film back in, what? 2008? 2009?
