Yeah, for some reason that trick doesn't work with Pooh. Probably because, in my case anyway, his voice is too distant a memory, and I never really liked it to begin with.

That would be the one. But I read the books with Shepard's illustrations first, which had actually been my mom's, that is to say I read parts of them anyway, and Pooh sounded different in my head.

I also knew the books first, before the movies came out, so I get what you mean. I'm not sure I had any definite idea in my head beforehand, but I remember thinking Holloway's voice wasn't quite what I'd expected Pooh to sound like. He was also kind of a surprising pick for the voice of Kaa the Python in Disney's Jungle Book, though I think it did work pretty well there.
