Worst Re-Casting Imagineable

I'm pleasantly surprised that we haven't yet had some wise guy chime in and list the current movie cast. Could it be that even the 2009 film's detractors agree that it did a good job with the casting? (And am I tempting fate by bringing this up?)

I was about to do that, but I thought it's too obvious to mention.

Clooney would have been perfect for Cochrane in FC. Much better than Cromwell, and I don’t mean that as a slight to Cromwell.
The perfect Cochrane would have been Tom Hanks, and I still regret that they didn't manage to get him. Damn you, world!

And at the time of FC, very affordable, since he hadn't become *GEORGE CLOONEY, SUPERMEGASTAR* yet. He was still "that guy who used to be on ER".

After Tasha Yars death, the Enterprise Dee gets a brand new tactical officer. Charlie Sheen.

Picard: "Lt. Sheen, what is your battle plan?"

Sheen: "Winning."

Hmmm, I think they should have dumped Wheaton and cast sheen as Wesley instead. The possibilities would have been endless.

While it wouldn't be the worst casting EVER, I often shuddered at the thought of a Berman-helmed TOS prequel, made during Voyager's run, starring Robert Duncan McNeil as James T. Kirk.

Here's my entry in to this thread.
While everyone will not agree with my choices. For me, these are THE WORST possible recasts. My choices are based on the ideal of recasting the show back in the 60s.

Kirk: Peter Tork-The Monkees
Spock: Erik Estrada-played Ponch on CHiPs
McCoy: Tom Wopat-played Luke Duke on The Dukes of Hazzard
Sulu:  Everyone I think of I find an improvement over George Takei
Chekov: Burt Ward-played Robin in 60s tv show Batman
Scotty: Adam West-played Bruce Wayne/Batman in 60s tv show Batman
Uhura: Any white female actress. Any male actor, black or white.

:wtf: Umm... yeah, those are bad choices, considering that they were both teenagers in the '60s and hadn't yet started acting in television (Estrada's TV debut was in 1970, Wopat's a decade later). If your intent was to pick actors who were actually available for casting in the '60s, though (which is a cool idea in principle), maybe you should double-check the dates first.

Scotty: Adam West-played Bruce Wayne/Batman in 60s tv show Batman

West would've been wrong for Scotty, but only because he was more of a leading-man type. West is a lot like Shatner -- a fine actor who had a reputation as an up-and-coming leading man who could go far, but who was then typecast for his work in a genre/cult show and had trouble being taken seriously afterward, until he eventually embraced the mockery and built a successful new career on self-parody.

Kirk: Steve Buscemi

Uhura: Susan Boyle

And last but not least...

Holy Recast!!!

Kirk-Adam West
Chekov-Burt Ward
McCoy-Neil Hamilton
Scotty-Stafford Repp
Rand-Yvonne Craig
Uhura-Eartha Kitt
Chapel-Julie Newmar
Sulu- Bruce Lee ( yeah yeah he's from the Green Hornert:p )

...or Adam West as Batman.

Adam West DID play Batman/Bruce Wayne in the 60s tv show Batman. In that same show Burt Ward played Robin/Dick Grayson.

I got a couple more bad recast ideals. But this time no particular time period. So these could be during the series, during the animated series or during the movies.

Kirk: Don Adams who played Maxwell Smart on Get Smart.
McCoy: Mickey Rooney or John Wayne.

Here are some recasts I think would be as good as or better than the established actors (Shatner, Nimoy, etc.).

Kirk: Guy Williams played John Robinson on 60s tv show Lost In Space. He should've waited a year and auditioned for the part of Kirk. To me, Lost In Space was just a waste of Guy's acting abilities.
Spock: Jack Lord from the original Hawaii Five-0
Sulu: James Hong who played a Chinese prince in a 1959 episode-(Señor China Boy) of Zorro which starred Guy Williams as Zorro/Don Diego.

KIRK - Nicholas Cage
SPOCK - Tom Cruise
SCOTTY - Ricky Gervais
McCOY - Kevin Costner
SULU - Jackie Chan
UHURA - Zoe Saldana
CHEKOV - Justin Bieber

CHAPEL - Courtney Love
RAND - Megan Fox

If Ricky Gervais was casted as Kirk then Karl Pilkington should be casted as Spock and Stephen Merchant as McCoy. ;)

Kirk (Ricky): Full sensor scan Mr. Spock.
Spock (Karl): Captain, do you want me to scan the object as a human or as a Vulcan?
Kirk (Ricky): Oh Bloody Hell. I don't care you idiot!
Spock (Karl): Wait, what does this button do?

Here are some more of my ideal of REALLY BAD recasts.

First, let me say I love The Monkees. I have all their albums on cd. But when it comes to Star Trek, I don't think they could pull it off.
Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Scotty: The Monkees-Micky Dolenz as McCoy, Mike Nesmith as Spock, Peter Tork as Kirk and Davy Jones as Scotty.

Now here is some wishful thinking on my part.
These are people I would LOVE to see play these characters.
Kirk-Alex O'Loughlin
McCoy-Scott Caan
Daniel Dae Kim-Sulu
Grace Park-Uhura
In case you haven't figured it out, that's the cast of the current Hawaii Five-0.

Here's more wishful thinking.
The CSI: NY cast.
Gary Sinise-Spock
Carmine Giovinazzio-Kirk
Eddie Cahill-Scotty
Hill Harper-A male Uhura
Sela Ward-A female Sulu
Anna Belknap-A female Chekov

I'm surprised you didn't suggest Gary Sinise as McCoy, because he bears a stronger facial and vocal resemblance to DeForest Kelley than any actor around today. There was even talk about him being considered for McCoy in the Abrams movie (though maybe that was just fan wishful thinking), but the filmmakers chose to go younger.
