So I'm holding off on buying this, mostly because the holidays are coming up and I'd rather save the money for a bit, but I have to know, how solid is it? Bethesda games have been hit and miss for me when it comes to game crashing bugs, Fallout 3 and Oblivion crashed consistently, while Morrowind and New Vegas were pretty solid.

in my personal experience it seems to be slightly more stable than New Vegas, though I have had several CTDs without so much as an error message

hopefully the impending patch will fix most of the most crazy bugs

After about one week of abstinence, I finally managed to try the patched PS3 version yesterday, appears to be running a hell of a lot smoother now, if not perfectly.

I really want to play this game but I'm probably going to wait for the Game of the Year edition so I can get it and all the inevitable expansions since I don't use xbox live.

Man, just like in Oblivion, the Dark Brotherhood quest is probably the most epic and satisfying. Seriously,
assassinating the Emperor? Does it get any bigger than that? Not to mention afterwards you have a sweet new pad, and the contracts just keep coming. That was one thing I missed in Oblivion. Once the quest was over, it was over. Not in Skyrim!

Good to hear. I've seen lots of complaints about that particular problem on Amazon, so knowing it could be patched didn't dissuade me much. It's on my Christmas list :)

I honestly can't imagine playing a Bethesda game on a console. Pretty much every bug I've encountered has been resolved via console commands. For instance yesterday I was supposed to talk to two people for the main quest, but neither had the needed dialogue option apparently because of a conflict with the civil war quest line. So I just opened the console, used the setstage command to complete those two objectives, and continued as normal. If I was on a console, I'd pretty much be screwed.

I'm actually starting to get a bit bored with Skyrim. Large maps with lots of locations and FedEx quests do not a great game make.

The stability is decent enough for me though. I've only had one crash.

I started to get a little bored when I decided to systematically comb the map for all the locations. Doing dungeon after dungeon after dungeon got pretty tedious, but thankfully they're a LOT less generic than Oblivion's, and a number of them gave me an often interesting quest to do when I entered them. As far as the quests, rule of thumb is quit doing the "radiant" (i.e. randomly generated) quests once you have enough done to become Thane in a particular Hold, because those are the really dull ones that are just "kill X at location Y" or "retrieve Y from a chest in location Z." Those are usually the ones you get from asking barkeeps and Jarls if they have any work for you, and you can spot them because the NPC doesn't mention any specifics, like place name, in their bestowal dialogue.

Yeah, if I didn't have an antiquated PC, I'd be playing the PC version.

It's next on my list of games after AC Revelations. I did about 15 minutes of it a while back but decided to give the game my full attention at a later date.

Is anyone getting a glitch where the carriages stop working?
I tell the driver where I want to go, hop in the carriage, but I just end up sitting there in the back of the carriage while the driver keeps saying 'Hop in, let's go.' 'Any time you're ready.'
pretty annoying if you ask me

^ Nope, that's a new one for me...
So far I've had two glitches that really, -really- upset me.

I finished the quest line for the Thieves Guild before doing the jobs for Delvin and Vex, and now when I try to talk to Brynjolf to advance to Guild Master he replies with "Sorry lad, I have important things to do, I'll talk to you later.", thus making it impossible to get the achievement One With The Shadows.

I got the start of the Daedric quest for A Daedra's Best Friend, I walk to where the dog Barbas should be, outside Falkreath, but he is not there. Disappeared in thin air. What the heck am I supposed to do now? This will not allow me to get the other achievement Oblivion Walker.

If anyone knows of any solution, please let me know. And no, unfortuately I do not have any earlier saves that I can use. :borg:

Is the quest maybe time-sensitive? I remember quests from Morrowind and Oblivion where the quest referred to a specific time to be at a location. Could it be the dog only appears during a certain times of day?

Seriously, where would we be without the console command? The first thing I did was up my walking speed so I didn't have to deal with the horse and I was more inclined to walk than use fast travel, which lead to many more discovered locations. I've fixed almost every problem I've had with the game, minus the menus and lack of leveraging the keyboard. (Favorites but no 1-10 keys for weapons and spells?)

On a side note, how do you get the quest codes for the setstage command? I got the glitch at the end of the thief's guild quest line where the NPC's just walk all the way back home and I was only able to get around it by going to a much earlier save file.
